making Tshirts, edumacate me

OK, so I have a buncha cute ideas for Tshirts -- could someone with expertise tell me about my options for making them? I know about iron-on letters, but I have a hard time finding them, and I don't want anything to do with painting or stenciling anything on.

One of the shirts I want to make isn't just letters, either: I want to draw a stylized little guy with a green mohawk (the text is "I listen to punk rock") for ds. What's my best bet here? Isn't there special paper I can draw it on & then iron the design onto the shirt? And for the text, can't I print it off my computer or something? Is that paper expensive?

Thanks!

i know you can buy iron on transfer printer paper. put the paper in your printer, print off your design and iron it on.

as far as drawing on iron on transfer paper... i dunno abou that. i wonder if you could draw/write on the transfer paper and attempt to iron it on. i mean, can printer ink be anything special? kwim? worth a test, right?

worst case: if you can't draw your image on the 'puter, scan it it! then print it to the transfer paper.

how's that?

Dh and I do screen printing for fun. We do simple things right now but are getting better with the harder designs. I design t-shirts, graphics, etc. for a living so it is fun to really get into the screen printing part.

You can buy transfer.iron on paper that you can print on and then iron on. It's not the greatest quality and will flake over time but if you wash gently it should last while the shirt fits.

If you can draw, I would draw the punk/mohawk guy, scan him in and then alter him in Photoshop. Add the letters then. You could make him look very cool with photoshop!

Can anyone tell me where I can buy the plain tshirts, tshirt dresses, tanks, etc.. for crafting? Is there a wholesale site or something? Thanks

I don't think they are wholesale, but I noticed this site sells plain t-shirt stock for dying. http://tie-dyed.net/store/catalog/

For the OP...have you thought of using the fabric crayons you can buy at the fabric or craft store? You just draw/color on your design then iron over it. This might be especially cute if you were going to do a stick figure design anyway.
