So I made my 10-week-old son, Marcos, an intactivist shirt. It says nocirc@birth.please (I think I got that off The People's Wall). He wore it to dd's art class on Tuesday morning. As luck would have it, a few people missed class, so it was really small- just us, another mom and daughter, a mom and son, and the teacher.
I was holding Marcos on my lap when the teacher asked what his shirt said. I told her and she said "What's that mean?" I said it means no circumcision, and she said "OH! I'm glad I had 3 daughters, I would have hated to make that decision!" She would have left it to her husband to decide. I told her that once you look into it, the decision is obvious- and that the baby would be her son too!
So our art class proceeded to have a little circ discussion! The really cool thing was that the mother of the 2-year-old boy in the class is from England, so her son is not circ'ed either. She backed me up, and said she'd never even heard of doing this until she met her circ'ed American future-husband! She wanted to know how in the world this had started for non-Jews, and I told her I had read it was to discourage masturbation.
At the end of class, I promised to bring some reading material for the teacher, since her young-adult daughters are future mothers. She seems really open to it. So, what would any of you suggest I print out and give to her? I also would like to bring that page of doctors' quotes regarding masturbation, for the English lady. Where can I find that one?
Thanks so much for all of the info here! I felt really confident sharing the truth with them because of all I've learned in this forum.
Oh, and also- The Wisdom of Frank continues to spread far and wide! My DP frequents a car message board with an off-topic forum. There was a thread by a dad of an intact son, whose ped had told them to retract and clean under the baby's foreskin. Same old story, right? The dad wasn't sure, as he'd read books that said to leave it alone. DPgave them the info from Frank's sticky, A Warning For Parents of Intact Sons .
