does your intact baby leak? (outside the diaper)

did you find you had to point the penis down?

ok, this is a theory of mine that I am trying to prove. I post in a very mainstream board, and noticed ALL the moms there had this problem, and coincidentally, they ALL circ (yeah, some even defend circ'ing like it actually had a "pro" side to it.. but that's a whole other issue lol) so.. my ds NEVER leaked. We have used both disposables and cloth at different times of his life, and never had to point anything "down" because it already *is* pointing down... and the few times I've seen circumcised babies their penis looks like it's shorter and flatter.. so maybe (this is my theory) they leak because they are circ'ed.

so... please help me clarify this to prove my theory!!!

No, ds has never leaked. His penis naturally points down too. Actually, I have to pry it away from his scrotum to wipe around it! There is no way it could possibly point up. Well, I suppose if he had an erection... But, to answer the question he's never leaked and he's never shot pee on me either!

Nope, no leaking. I don't specifically point his little guy up or down or over or anywhere, I just velcro that diaper shut and he's dry as a dessert!

Maybe circ'd babes have this problem because there's nothing left of their poor little penises but a "nub" and it will stick straight UP if it's not pushed down? :

nak

ds' diaper used to leak when he was a newborn, but I think it was because both dp and i were new at changing diapers (we used disposables for the first 5.5 months)
we do have to point his penis down sometimes, though--his forskin is almost *sticky*, I guess you would say--it sticks to his thigh on occasion.

That is exactly what I meant in my post! Thanks for putting it into words a little better for me!

Yes, my intact ds has "leaked" (outside of his diaper) if he wasn't pointed down.

A friend of mine who already had a circed boy advised me to point the penis down at every diaper change. My ds seems to be pointing down most of the time and I don't have to do anything with it at diaper changes. I've had a couple leaks but I think that might be due to baby erections.

The other advice I got was to always cover the penis up during a diaper change so I wouldn't get sprayed. Ds has peed several times while I've changed him but the stream just goes down. Well except for the one time his foreskin got crimped upwards (from sticking to the diaper I think). He got himself in the face that time. :LOL

i haven't had any problems with my intact ds leaking out the top either, but i do always check to make sure he's pointing down (which he pretty much always is already)

Sorry to spoil your theory..but my intact boy leaks from time to time. It seems to have more to do with certain diapers (both cloth and disposable) and how they fit his thighs than anything.

My son leaked also. He also peed on me. I used a wash cloth often. I would point him down but if he got a stiffy that was useless :LOL

my son is intact and we ALWAYS had to point his penis down, because otherwise he would pee straight out his diaper. and on me. and everything else around him.

he peed on his head once too.

Ditto! I think LMB must change her baby standing up or something - because Blake does not automatically point down, he points wherever gravity (or his little hands) make him point.

I think the reason the circ'ed penis would point up is because the skin on it is tighter. It doesn't have enough slack to point down on its own. The leakage, I have no idea.

Maddox's foreskin always sticks to his balls. When he was a newborn and peed with the diaper off, it would go a little out and down, but not up. Maybe length of foreskin? His is really long. We never had any leaks.

Yup. My intact son is a leaker, too.

I had a leak one time recently. Penis lays downward. When changing and there is an erection I still face it downward, and loosely cover with a dipe. Leak was probably due to the diaper position/size, and perhaps even I just didn't change it right away when getting up in the am(and therefore over loaded).

Like said above, I had to dispell and intactivist theory, but Jett pees EVERYWHERE.

He's intact and, as my coworker noted, is well-endowed. She said, "No wonder you're so happily married. That boy is HUNG!" DH's whole family is, as she said, "HUNG!"

Anyway, his penis does often stick to his scrotum, which is convenient. When it points up his belly, though, he pees out the top of his diaper if he isn't wearing a cover. Let's see...in his ten weeks, he has peed on the window and blinds, all over his face and head, filled his ear, soaked me and DH and peed a fountain all over the floor from the changing table.....all of these multiple times. We keep him diaperless a lot, though.

So, if you mean "UP" as in straight out from his body, he only does that if he has an erection. Otherwise, his penis lays against his body, in any of the 360 degrees.

At our 6 week check, my midwife was changing his dipe and I noticed that she tucked him down as she snapped the diaper on. Great idea, since his little willy peeks out the top of his diaper if he's in a Kissaluv size 0.

My intact son has the "stickies" too...LOL No Leaking here

I agree with Jaclyn on this one - DS has leaked several time, but not "up". I do have to point him down on occassion. He seems to have a lot of erections. He has also leaked out the side of his diaper - well not leaked so much as peed - if his diaper had a small hole and his penis pointed sideways. It does stick though as well in any of the 360 degrees, though most usually down. I think the idea that circed boys will have tighter skin makes sense, but I would think it would cause their penis to point out as opposed to up. I imagine that the difference between circed and non-circed regarding diaper leakage is minimal at best.

in 18 mos of changing diapers of twins, the only leaks were poo, except for when we used cheap disposables overnight. and neither twin ever peed during a diaper change.
