how far ahead of time did you order HB kit?

If you ordered a homebirth kit from somewhere, how far ahead of time did you get it? I have about 8 weeks left until my due date.

Was there anything you bought additionally that you felt was necessary, or anything you wish you had bought?

Thanks for any input!

it depends on what is in your kit!! anyway, we made up our own w/ds....from cascade i believe. you don't really need too much.
i think we ordered ours around this time to make sure and have it in case we went early.

the only things i really liked having were the chux pads, some depends like undergarments for the first couple days, a peri-bottle, a newborn cap, some herbs i'd chosen to have, bendable straws for drinking post-birth lying down and some sitz bath. and you don't *need* any of it....just lots of towels, and maybe a plastic underliner for your bed. good luck.

I put mine together but i made sure i had it altogether by week 36 since you can't do a homebirth before that.

I am sure we had ours at least 2-3 months in advance. I like to plan ahead . Also incase I went early and there was a delay in shipping and it was missing stuff or i needed something else.

I did get an extra cap because I love these, a borth cirtificate and extra footprinting kits because these are fun. What I wish I had gotton were more chux pads of various sizes. i just couldn't have too many of these.

Today we decided (I think) to have a homebirth! I am so excited! I think we'll order the kit our midwife recommends two or three months ahead - gives lots of time for backorders, shipping, etc. Where do you shop for the extras mentioned so far?? Like the footprint kit, etc. Online (anyone have any links?)or in a local store? We have something 1/2 hour from here called Birth and Beyond that has lots of neat stuff - maybe I will look there.

It depends on how long it will take to get to you if you mail order it. We were able to order ours at a medical supply in town, so we were able to pick it up a couple days later. I think I ordered it about 3 weeks before my due date.

My midwife supplies these for a nominal fee, chux pads, a little cap, etc! She insists that you purchase it by 36 wks, since you can go into labor any time after that and still birth at home. I guess I would make sure that if you're ordering from somewhere to be delivered to you, that it reaches you by 36 wks. You never know if you might go early-I was resigned to being overdue with my 1st since my mother and my sisters all birthed 2 wks past their due dates with all of their children...and then I went into labor at 38 wks! It was supposed to be my last day of work, so I'd have a few weeks to settle into our new house and get ready to have the baby... DS had other plans! Best of luck to you!
