On wednesday, 3/02, there is going to be a circ special on the 11:00 local news. One of the things they highlighted was infant deaths from circ'ing, so I'm very interested to see what else they say since this seems to be a very pro-circ area (at least my town is). I will watch it and let you all know what they say.

Although I am not in the local area, I would love to e-mail the station with further information as I know of several deaths that as far as I know have never been reported in the media. I know it's too late for this report but I'm hoping that they will take the information and do further investigation to get to the bottom of the issue.
The medical profession reports that the risk of death is about 1/500,000, however, a study done in 1999 by Bollinger showed a death toll of 229 and a previous study done in 1979 showed exactly the same number, 229, for a risk factor of approximately 1/7,000 According to the medical profession, there should have only been 3 deaths each of those years but from reports on this and other boards alone, I know of that many so obviously, the medical profession's numbers are incorrect and definitely misleading. I know that unless the death occurs during the circumcision procedure, the cause of death will be written up as "infection," "blood loss," "heart failure," etc., instead of "circumcision" which would be more accurate since the other would not have happened if there was no circumcision. I believe it is deliberately done this way in order to hide the fact that the physician botched a procedure that is "known" to be extremely safe and to avoid embarassment.
If you would, please provide an e-mail address or a link to the station's site so I can communicate with them. I would also like to see what they put on their site about it.
Thanks,
Frank

HOLY COW...there's an MDCer in my town?? COOOOOOL!
We don't go to any of the Newark peds...the ones we've had are so anti-bfing... But, there's good news about my doctor now...I gave him the AAP guidelines for the intact penis, and he read them and wanted to keep them! He was very open to the information and now won't touch Bran's penis without my permission! I'm glad that he's informed now...because he loves that Bran's still bfing, and hasn't said anything about co-sleeping! He's in Thornville...

I was thinking the same thing! I don't know anyone around here who is AP at all, let alone anti-circ. I don't even know anyone who breastfeeds
I don't go to the peds here, either. There were about 4 peds that looked at DS in the hospital and I was not happy with them at all. One ped tried to scare me into giving DS the vit K shot. I was asked by each of them if I wanted DS circ'ed. It said in my records that NO, he was NOT going to be circ'ed! You think they would read your file before walking into your room.
So, I take him to my doctor in New Albany who is very pro-bf'ing and when he was checking his diaper area, he saw me tense up and hover and he said, "It's alright, I'm just going to check and make sure his testicles have descended." I think he saw the panic on my face :LOL

He sounds like a great doctor!!
LOL...well, there's at least one breastfeeding mama...I'm still nursing my 15 month old! Oh, and actually, I'm in LLL, and the leader just had a homebirth, and now has 3 children--I believe 2 are still nursing!
If you ever want to go to La Leche, PM me for the info. It's a great group of ladies...lots of slings and nursing... I think Bran is the only cloth diapered one in the bunch though. But there are always lots of kiddos running around playing!

It's almost time...
It's sounds somewhat promising to me..."Circumcions gone wrong. It does happen!..."
I just don't like that they says "the pros and cons." Maybe they'll be anti-circ but just want to keep the potential circers around to watch. ?? I can hope, can't I?

UGHHHHHHH...it was totally pro-circ... And the lady whose poor kid
had *3* botched circs was like "yeah, if a father is, I'd just
assume that's what he'd want his son to be...you know how men are
about their sons". Yeah, well, not MY dh. I can't believe she'd
even advocate for it after her son had to get re-circed 3 times...
And what's with that doctor (the neurologist??) who kept saying that
circumcision prevents a zillion problems because "you can't even get
a kid to brush his teeth properly". Shouldn't he have said "let's
lop off a body part because you can't teach your son to take care of
it. Heck, let's remove the teeth too".
Ugh...I'm so mad at that article...it was more like "the cons of non-
circing"... Although the demonstration made me sick to my
stomach... It hurt to watch, even though it was just a glove...
Poor baby...

In addition to what AllyRae said...
First, the newscaster said "it's something parents of baby boys have to consider." Ummm, I NEVER "considered" it. It was completely out of the question. So maybe just the way she worded it was wrong but still...
The woman that was interviewed had her first baby done and his was botched. He had to get it re-done 3 times (or done a total of 3 times, can't remember) and they still got their 2nd son done! UGH!
They mentioned that people in training often do the circs, so make sure that the person doing it knows what they are doing. That was their advice.
They quoted the AAP, but they had some quack doc saying that kids are basically too stupid to keep clean, sooo....you get the rest.
They said 80% of babies in the U.S. are circ'ed. They listed some countries that don't RIC.
They said that the procedure only takes "a minute."
The info was so wrong it was appalling. This is NOT what the parents in this area need to hear.
They had just the one quack doctor saying you should because of all the horrible stuff that can happen later, but no one on to debate that. So it ended up looking like you HAVE to circ or your kid will be unclean and have problems later.
I'm so pi$$ed and I WILL be writing the station!
Oh, they also made us anti-circ advocates sound like jerks. They said that we feel it is mutilation, ect, but they said it in a "they're just being ridiculus tone."

My mom and her neighbor were watching it with me.
My mom, even though she had my brother circ'ed 31 years ago and thought it was necessary, is now realizing how wrong it is.
Her neighbor (who had two sons done) is another story. She sticks by, "it's better for it to be done when they are babies than later on."
:
So I told them everything that was wrong with that story and also explained how circs are done. My mom had this horrified look on her face. I least I'm getting through to SOME people. I just wish I was getting through to young parents-to-be and not grandmas who are done with babies.

My son is only 5 1/2 weeks old and I already know his "pain cry". I accidently jabbed him in his gums last week with my fingernail
: and it made me feel TERRIBLE! I hugged him and calmed him down. I don't know how a mom can just stand there and let someone hurt her baby.

Does anyone have e-mail address where I could write? I just want to tell them how hard it is live here in Scandinavia with all these stinking foreskins - not. I just cannot believe that people are actually opening their mouth and letting that kind of stupid things come out. It must be so hard for little American girls with their dirty vaginas - since according to these stupid idiotic doctors American children have no clue how to wash themselves.
