dh is a wee bit shy but is so very into these boards! am trying to get him here...

mamapie - with so few guys here you'd think they could come up with some original names! My dh says "but I'm the pie poppa" and refuses to change! He hasn't posted though in ages, so I guess the confusion will be minimal! Too funny! (gee I wonder why we all have food names!)

See, I'm mamapie, he's Papapie, ds is Babypie and we live in Pieville. But dh types too slow to bother coming here, and is too shy. Why is your dh Pie Poppa? And might I rudely ask your ethnic background? DH is Puerto Rican and is wondering if you are as well...

Okay, okay! I am posting in to this discussion. Why did I choose the name "pie_poppa"? Well I guess its because I began a quest many years ago to make the ultimate homemade pizza pie, and after a little bit of learning finally got the hang of it. I won my wife's heart several years ago because I made her a birthday pizza pie, I think I shocked her a little bit because she didn't think I'd follow through with it but she had no idea how much I loved to cook and share with people. Lately I've become obssessed with making fruit pies, once I got my hands on Jeffrey Steingarten's pie crust recipe, it was all over. As any pie afficianado knows, it's all in the crust.
Good pies are like peole we love and know well: warm, filling, sustaining, full of complex textures and color, and we when become inimate with their interior their is always familiarity and suprise as well as wonder. Happy New Year to all the Pies in Pieville!

Speaking of Pie... Pie_poppa.... did you try the recipe I sent?

sweet potato pie

Sorry mamapie, I have not yet been able to try your recipe, been busy, it's job hunting season right now, and my last grad semester is starting up. But I will get to it before it's "out of season". Yeah, right, like any pie is out of season at any time of year!
I have a few fresh cranberries I was thinking of adding to it along with some grated orange peel... but I absolutely refuse to put any kind of marshmallow topping on anything!

Yes, Marsmallow topping is yicky. How I embellish mine is to lay a pecans in circles around the top of the pie. My friend puts meringue but yucky. The pecans bake up nice and chewy... and they are real purdy!!!

mamapie, pie_papa,

I've never baked a pie. Can one of you send me a crust recipe...or any recipe for that matter. I'd like to try baking a pie.

thanks.

I'm not Puerto Rican but I spent a couple months there about 30 years ago. I even remember a little of the language, or at least I try!

Does anyone here make pecan pie? or cheesecake?
