Triple zig zag???

I think that's what I saw someone call it...

How do you do that zig zag stitch for attaching elastic where instead of one stitch back and forth, it takes three in one direction then three in the other? Like around the Little Lambs AIOs? Does it require a special machine, or do you do it by hand?

Thanks

It's all in your machine. It should have a stitch function that shows a zig zag with three stitches per direction. The older machines don't tend to have it but even the less expensive new machines now adays do. It's a great stitch if you're using lastin. But you don't have to use lastin. You can use knitted elastic from the fabric store and just tack down the ends and make a casing. So there are other options for elastic if you don't have the 3 step zig zag.

Even old machines from the 50's will have it, though they usually are a 4-step stitch.

My 20-yr-old Kenmore machine has the 3-step zigzag stitch and it works great. I don't think you could do it by hand...

My ancient Kenmore definately does NOT have it, but you don't have to have it. I can (finally) get good results with Lastin using the regular zigzag set on the longest stitch length, but only if I use 3/8" Lastin. 1/4 only works for me on one layer of fabric - otherwise it doesn't gather properly.
