Feel the love! - Page 2

I'll jump in....

We've had a slow week! I had an OB appt on Monday afternoon and my errands took up my entire morning. Guess you could say we had economics class. :LOL

Yesterday I felt terrible and spent the day on the couch. They had Quiet Reading Time while I took a nap. :

So today we are FINALLY getting some school done! We don't have much to do so it shouldn't take long.

When we're done I'm going to have them work on a little community service project. There is a place in town that feeds the homeless....they are having a birthday party for the homeless. Just a thing to celebrate all the people there. So they are asking people to buy or make birthday cards. Then they will hand them out. Soooooo, my girls are making cards.

We also have a flat traveler to send back. I need to get the journal typed up. Then we have another who's ready to go out again.

Eilonwy, it was a lot of fun. You just take a bunch of change and a die (though we couldn’t find any dice so we used a deck of cards). Roll the die (or pull a card). Whatever the number, take that many cents. When you have 5 pennies, you exchange them for a nickel, two nickels for a dime, etc. Just keep taking turns til the first person to get $1 wins. At which point of course my dd asked if she could keep the dollar :LOL

Mamapoppins, that’s so sad

We went to the blanket making thing today. I drove up in front of the woman's house, turned off the car and . . . . . . . realized I left all my fabric at home. :LOL That is SO me. I am such an airhead So we made three with the fabric the other mom had and my kids and I will work on ours this week. As I knew would happen, my dd didn't stay for long making them, but she did enjoy what she did. She had fun tying the knots on the fringe

The kids are running around like nuts playing dress up. I have Mama Jaguar and Baby Leopard running around here right now.

Saphire, I love your daughters' names! They were both on my list this last time. (She turned out to be a Rowan though. )

UnschoolnMa, so what brought you to my corner of the world? I look forward to meeting you. We have a little unschooling playgroup you know on Fridays... usually pretty sparsely attended, but it's a nice place (big gym) for the kids to run themselves silly when the weather is too cold for outside play. Pretty soon here we'll probably switch over to meeting at the park. Hey, I don't know how familiar you are with the area, but if you have any questions, feel free to email me.

We did a Scooby Doo puzzle tonight. I felt like doing a jigsaw puzzle but I'm not quite up to the "adult" ones :LOL So I bought myself a 100 piece one. Huh, the hundred piece ones only came in cartoon characters. Like no other adults have to keep to 100 piece puzzles? : Ok, fine Anyway, we did it after dinner and it was fun.

Now the kids are playing starfall.com. DD loves to play the short pieces of music at MONSTROUS volume and dance around. At least it's music I like and nothing annoying (tonight we've heard a lot of Scott Joplin and Beethoven).

What a great thread!
We had a fun day today. Our week has been pretty laid back since DS only has class one day this week, and I don't feel like I have to cram things in.

My whole family recently got over a bad, bad cold, but last night DD woke up with the croup cough, ugh! I'm hoping and praying that she gets over this quickly and doesn't share it with everyone else!! On a lighter note, she and I are really enjoying The Little Princess book we are reading together. This is the first time she has kept interest in a chapter book and it is right down her alley. I couldn't resist waiting until bedtime, so I read her two more chapters this morning, snuggled together on the couch.

DS was very excited to learn to sew today. He earned a bag full of Cub Scout patches that he wants to get on his red patch vest ASAP. He worked very hard on the one patch he sewed today, and realized just how much work went into sewing on the tons of patches that are already on there! Yes, he has a very loving mother...

We are planning a summer garden here too, but I haven't had the time to get the ground prepared yet. We did plant some peas along our chain-link fence in the front yard 2 weeks ago and the tallest is about 1 in. The 3yo I provide daycare for is more excited about those tiny plants than anyone else!

I can't wait to garden. I think a foot of snow fell here today though :LOL Peas are fun!

I have seen 100 piece puzzles without cartoon characters on them. The ones that come to my mind had things like flowers and trees on them. They were at a Mennonite store, though, and I can't imagine that Mennonites or Amish are real big on Scooby Doo. :LOL

BeanBean absolutely adores that Starfall site. It combines letters, the computer, and time with mamma, so it must be brilliant in his mind. If only there were lots of airplanes and cars whizzing around the background...:LOL :

Oooo, I remember having to sew on those Girl Scout patches. Those are hard. Maybe that's the real reason I dropped out :LOL

Eilonway, :LOL No, no Amish stores around here I was just at the corner drugstore though. I need to go to a bigger store with a real selection.

Kids are asleep - maybe - dd is probably reading in her room - it's like she's reverted to her infancy and doens't need to sleep anymore :LOL

I was flipping through the book of great composers I bought for Bridget and one thing led to another and then I'm on the computer looking up Dvorak and listening to samples on Amazon.com. He ROCKS! I can't believe I never heard this guy's music before (heard OF him but not his music). Bridget is going to love this tomorrow

Ohh we've played this game before when the kids were little, and it is a blast. It's a fun way to play with change values etc.

Hi there! Actually I grew up over here. We are just getting back after being in Redmond for a year. We only left to try and get to know my husband's daughter (she's about to turn 16) a bit better after not being allowed to see her for several years. It didn't go well though, so we just decided to come back to where our friends all are.

I hope to make it to the unschooling play group soon. My daughter is looking forward to it. My son is too, but he is kinda shy and slow to warm up to new people/situations. I think he will do just fine though. Hope to meet you soon!

Spring is here!

I'm a fly-by poster here. I took daughter out of preschool about a month or so ago (probably less! -- time seems to have stopped). She was there only to learn the local languages, but she ran into trouble with three of the boys in the class.

This morning daughter decided she had to go outside and sweep the walkways. Then she wanted to skate. Then we cleaned the house. She's really into reading care labels, so she tells me how to wash things and whether or not I can iron them.

Now she's been doing imaginative play for about the last hour or so. She also wanted me to tell her all the letters in one of her books. I think she read the word about, but I'm not sure; she may have just guessed.

Soon (Please...soon! I'm pregnant and sooo sick & tired) her babysitter will come for three hours. They'll do imaginative play, art, reading or whatever comes to mind. This babysitter is so great! Then at 3 dd will go try a new gymnastics class. I hope it works.

Our one problem is that we don't have much social contact. I tend to think it's enough that she's with me, the babysitter, sometimes babysitter's daughter, and just people we meet on the street or for dinner sometimes. I do wish she had a friend, though.

Nice to read all these stories! I wish so much that we had a library to go to! Well, we're going home to Paris soon, so we can do some major re-stocking.

ParisMaman, congrats on your pregnancy!

We were at the library this morning and I saw two different families with school age children. I asked the librarian if school was out today and she looked at me odd and said no :LOL If it were just one family I'd think they were homeschoolers but two? Of course I am not the type of person able to go up to total strangers and say "hi, are you homeschoolers?" :LOL Well, one of the kids could have been kindergarten (so maybe half day?) but the other child was at least 8 or 9 if not older. Weird.

Bad news, good news, bad news, good news
My library has a pitifully small selection of CDs and I didn't find the composers I wanted
But they will request CDs from inter-library loan
But you can only request three items at a time so I couldn't ask for all that I wanted
But while flipping through the selections I found a Scott Joplin album so I took that home since Bridget likes him

ShannonCC, Dvorak *rocks*, I agree. We played the finale of the New World Symphony in band in high school, very fun. The great thing about music like that is you can always find cheap CDs at department stores and such.

An OT to say: Yeah! Our local Dollar Tree had 100 piece puzzles that had the space shuttle, Easter Island, the Eiffel Tower, Niagara Falls and other landmarks/"wonders". Not made in China, either - which is a personal bugaboo of mine, but worth mentioning when it comes to the dollar store, you know?

Anyone who doesn't have a Dollar Tree near by and wants me to check for them, I'm happy to! PM, if you'd like.

*Popping in*

We've been busy this week for a change. I took ds1 to the art museum this weekend. It's the second time he's been; the first time was before Christmas. He really enjoyed himself and seemed to focus more on individual paintings this time. There was a sculpture there that freaked him out (a tree with eyes and a mouth), so we had to take great lengths to avoid it. We stopped by the library (it's next door) and discovered that they added a play room for kids 4 and under. We were the only people there, which was great since he prefers to do things in his own space. He was thrilled with the giant blocks they had. He loves to build stuff.

Later this week, we went to the mall, which seems trivial, but it was a huge success wrt ds2. Ds2 is a such a curious little person who also is the most determined little person I've ever met. So, it's impossible to take him anywhere these days. We've never done the stroller with him, but he actually sat in a stroller and did not try to escape very much. We were able to get some spring clothes without him throwing a huge fit over being confined or trying to run off. It was a major outing success. Phew!

We did grocery shopping yesterday and also mailed a letter and drawing combo that ds1 made for his overseas grandparents. He put the money up on the counter and the postal person gave him a receipt. We talked about how we paid for the service of having the letter delivered, how it was going to get to Grandma's house, etc. I showed him the dollar sign on the receipt, but he wanted to know why his name wasn't on it (as a proof of purchase).

Today was LLL. Ds2 was relatively subdued because there were lots of people milling around. Ds1 mostly played alone, although he seemed very happy.

Tomorrow is our Gymboree siblings class. I'm not sure of what we're doing this weekend.

Thanks everyone! Hi Elionwy!

I feel decent today! Very exciting!

The gymnastics class went pretty well. Dd just explored. The teacher was really great -- never forcing anything, not touching dd if she didn't want, etc. I hope this works. Dd really needs this kind of exercise. She loved the balance beam!

Friend who lets us use her APO address sometimes (shhh! It's a secret) just called to say we have a package. I hope it's books! So we're off to pick that up.

Ok...so the cards didn't get made until today. :LOL But at least they are done now! The girls had fun making them!

I need to go looking for the next Language Arts/English book tomorrow for my oldest dd.
