Cleaning up after pets

Hi. Not sure if this is the right place or not. As it's getting closer to summer and our toddler will be outside playing alot, I'm trying to plan the best way to keep the yard clean from our dog. She's an inside dog who goes outside. Usually during the summer I go out every once in a while and clean up the yard. This year w/ our DS it will have to be more often. My main question is what to do w/ the poop. I don't want to throw it in the trash (like I did before : ) but I don't know what else to do w/ it. Any suggestions?

: Want to know also. We don't have a compost, and I don't think it is reccomended to be put in compost anyway. But we pretty much don't go into our backyard because of the dogs and the flies now.

If it's from your yard, can you just bring it inside and flush it?

Doggie Doolie

If there's a PetsMart near you (or another similar store) you might look for this product called a Doggie Doolie. It is like a composter specifically for dog poop. You dig a hole, put the container in the ground, and then put the poop in whenever you clean the yard. There is a product which comes in powder(?) form, which you pour over the dog poop once a week or so (I know it comes with clear directions). I think it costs around $40-50.

I haven't actually tried the product although I would like to. Thing is, there is one size for if you have 1 or 2 dogs, and another size for if you have more than 2 dogs. I have 3 dogs and PetsMart never has the larger size in stock. I will probably order it on-line from them within the next year because I will also have a young child playing outside a lot and would like to be able to use the yard without worrying.
