Side aplix dipes?

Is there a trick for getting this to work? I don't have a snap press so I have been making front aplix dipes so far, but I thought I might try side aplix.

Does the hook go on the back or on the front tabs? (The top or the bottom layer, I guess) How far back should the hook or loop extend backwards? In front-aplix I just run the loop all along the front, but for the sides I don't know how far back to extend it (don't yet have a baby-model )

Can I use the same pattern or do I need to modify the length of the tabs (either the front or the back ones)?

Hope this is moderately clear - it's hard to know what to call things...

TIA!

I think that the hook would be attached to the front panel and the loop would go along the sides. As for length - I imagine that it would depend on the size of your munchkin...but I think that would need a little more than half the loop needed for a front closing diaper.

What pattern are you using?

Darling Diapers has a side aplix diaper (scroll down). I tried to make side aplix twice before finding these pics, and neither time worked. I tried to make it like side snap dipes, but with aplix, but the front panel curled outward. Next time I'm going to extend the tabs in front. BTW- I put hook on the front panel and loop on the sides. Good luck!

OK, so I tried this. I put the hook on the front - that definately seems right.

I am using the VB pattern, but I modified the fit a bit and made the front panel wider and the back tabs longer, but I think I overdid it since it now looks like it would go around a whale (the large wouldn't go around my son before and he's not exactly fat). The reason I started to think of side aplix was that I was making a front-aplix pocket fitted but I forgot to sew the aplix on the front of the dipe before I sewed it all together. Of course you can't add it after because then you can't stuff the diaper properly .

I ordered the DD pocket dipe pattern - I can't wait to get it. I used to wonder why anyone would need more than one diaper pattern, but I like to see how all these people do their little specialties. The DD pattern looks like the side aplix tabs really saves on fabric - mine uses mountains of fabric which I think is really wasted. We shall see...

Thanks for your help!

I noticed the pop-out tabs on front-aplix diapers seems to be good for saving fabric, too.

I agree with the pp. The Hb's I made save lots of fabric by doing the pop-outs. I made a VB side-aplix style. It came out okay Let us know how the DD pattern works out

Is it the AIO pattern? The diaper pattern has instructions for side aplix, but if you've modified the AIO pattern I'd love to see what you've done. Is it harder for your baby to remove? Nathan just discovered he can rip his diaper right off and run naked :LOL

No, I stupidly bought the fitted pattern (because I wanted to make fitteds ) before I realized the AIO one was much more versatile.

Any my kiddo doesn't remove his velcro dipes, go figure. Except at bath time, and only if they're not poopy. How did I get such an accomodating child?? (Oh, now I remember, when I was still using sposies he took one off at nap time and had a good poop and made a huge mess - maybe he just didn't like sposies!)
