Vent about tuition increase!

My DD goes to a Montessori preschool 3 days a week-3 hrs each day. They moved from a converted house to a "real" school building (old day care ctr)this year. It is $220 a month now with a one time $100 curriculum fee (for field trips, special programs, etc)
I was planning on sending her next year until I got the new tuition rates-the same # of days/hrs will be $367!!!!!!!
It's not like they have a waiting list or anything, it's a small place. This is more than $50 higher than the other 2 local montessoris. I think she may put herself out of business
I'm sure it's due to the new building but I don't think she understands that she won't keep the building without students!
So we won't be going next year I'm going to work with a friend and create our own "preschool" for our 4 kids with local park and rec classes and playdates.
Am I out of line thinking this is just way too big of a tuition hike?

It is pretty hard to swallow at one time. I feel your pain as our Waldorf school is going up 7% next year. I wish I got that kind of a raise!

That's over 50%. Seems pretty big for a one time hike to me.

tution increase

yeah, that is pretty high. we pay $420 a month for a part time afternoon program, and this fall the tuition will increase to about $690 for full day 9-330
k,1,2 class. I'm not sure we can manage it but I don't like the alternatives either.

I did talk to the owner about and she said it was mainly due to the new building and they had to revamp all their fees to cover costs, etc. I told her I understood that it was a business and she had to cover her costs and make some money. I told her we wouldn't be coming back but that we enjoyed it. She sounded really worried at the end of the conversation about how many of these calls she'd get...guess she'll find out.
Everyone makes choices about how they want to spend their money and this just isn't a priority for me and my DD right now-she's just 3 so I rather do other fun stuff with her with the money now.
