OMG! I want to knit this! The only problem is that I know the weather will turn warm by the time I finish it and I really don't have enough money to buy that much yarn in one go. But it's so beautiful. Check it out.

Well gee!

I was just at LTK yesterday and there weren't any new patterns.

Wonder if there are anymore??...must go see...

I love that poncho! I'm not talented enough though. Maybe next year. Hopefully it won't be out of style.

Woo Hoo!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this pattern for soooo long! Bought it now though, just got to convince DHs aunt to knit it for me, lol

It's not really that difficult once you get the calculations done, but it is a lot of yarn and a lot of knitting. I'm feeling bitter because I'm casting on for the third time now. Stinkin' magic loop. I will master this, I will!

How much yarn are we talking about? Say in a bulky or chunky weight. I want a rough idea to see whether I can possibly afford to knit this.

I thought the same thing when I saw it...LOTS of yarn.

Neat pattern, though!
Too bad there won't be anymore little ones around here.

Glad y'all like it Laura, with a chunky yarn (I wouldn't suggest going up to bulky it'll be too thick and cumbersome) for a 32" chest you'd need about 650 yards, for a 42" chest you'd need about 1400 yards. I did mine in Lion Brand Wool Ease Chunky (cuase I didn't want to spend a fortune on it, LOL!) and I used just about 720 yards for a 36" chest (but I'm really short, 5'2", if I had been taller witht he same chest size it would have used about 800 yards)

Hmmm...maybe I'll just break down and buy some cheap yarn too. Would I need extra yarn if I want to wear a toddler in it too or is the pattern sized to accomodate for that?
nope, you're good as it is, if you look at the pic it's got shaping to accomodate a child. I should take a pic of my 4 yo in it, LOL!

That poncho brings a tear to my eye I love it so much. I'm going to start it now so it's done by next fall, lol.

Theresa, you've outdone yourself this time That is now my goal item - if I finish all the projects I currently have going, I will buy that pattern! I was eyeing up the one that you based it on, too, and thinking "Oh, I can draft something like that..." Problem is, well, I never find the time. You're obviously a better time manager than I am

Laura, I loved the photos of you with Achintyas in the snow. What a cute babe, and the pictures were so artistic. Was that Monday's snowstorm? I was trying to place where the pics were taken, I went to UDel. Some looked like the dorms on the north mall, others looked like one of the off-campus apartment complexes... I remember how beautiful all of Newark was after the blizzard in the spring of '96. The state was so utterly unprepared to plow or salt, it stayed gorgeous and quiet for days!

btw, Laura, I saw an inexpensive chunky all-wool yarn at Michael's in Exton, PA. That might be a good one to use.

It's beautiful!

I love it! It is my next project. I'm hoping those who are going to make it can post their progress and maybe we can all help each other with any technical difficulties! Already there are a few threads about the magic loop. My knitting hands are itchy to start!
Hey! Laura, I had no idea you were close to me, LOL (I'm across the border in PA) And Tara, where are you?!?!? Exton isn't but a hope skip and jump from me, why haven't we gotten together to knit, dangit?!?! I've been trying to get a knitting circle going here in delaware county for a whiel and it never flies. PM ME!!!

(you may now continue your originally scheduled thread, LOL!)

Why not here? To post on LTK regarding babywearer pattern you need special access, which I do not have. Okay?

Theresa, I'm up near Phoenixville and Pottstown. I thought I've solicited you in the past to join the mailing list for Families for Natural Living Philadelphia (formally Main Line Moms)? Laura, you might be interested, too. You're not too far from a lot of the activities - our center of action is Chester County, and you're closer than a lot of our moms in Bucks County and Philly!

Anyway, if either of you are interested, pm me. And, come spring, I'd love to get together at a playground to knit while the kidlets play!

Tara - it was a snowstorm back in January. The only big one we had. DS loved it. The pics are from our apartment complex off-campus and from the neighborhood between Elkton Rd and campus.

Theresa - my uncles live in Drexel Hill. That's near you right? I'm up that way once in a while, but I take SEPTA because we don't have a car.
