OK...talk to me about snaps & snap presses

I'm very seriously contemplating purchasing a snap press. Velcro gets old and just seems to make a diaper look, I don't know, un-tidy to me. I've also got 2 boys that need a bit more range to choose from to get a good fit, so I'm figuring snaps are the way to go.

I don't want to purchase a bunch of different sized snaps or die sets, so tell me:

What's the best size and type of snap to use on everything from fitteds to wool covers?

What's the general size used by all you WAHMs out there?

How does sizing work? The higher the number the bigger the snap? Or the other way around?

Someone PLEEEEEZE point me in the right direction

Snaps!

Okay, let's see...

I have a snap press and dies from www.diapershop.com and I have been very happy with it all. I originally got size 16 snaps (yes, the higher the number, the larger the snap) but I hated them (too small, they pulled out easily, they were hard to affix...) so then I got size 20 poly-resin snaps and I love them. They work great for diapers, snapin soakers, covers, wool, fleece, etc etc etc. I find them easy to put in, they stay put, I have broken only a few of them, and that seems to be a fairly standard size from what I've seen.

You can also get snaps/presses from:
www.diapershop.com
www.thesnapstore.com
and Make it Snappy, whose webpage I can't find at the moment

The one thing I would warn about, it just be sure to buy your die set with the snap press (in other words, get them all from the same place) because different die sets fit slightly differently in the presses. The snaps are generally interchangable (in my experience), but the die pieces are not, they are made to go with each certain presses, and that's that.

I have bought snaps from each of the above 3 links and they have all been just fine, and all work on my press from diapershop.com.

Good luck!

Thanks lizabird. I ended up going to the Snap Store. They have the 5-color sets of 1000 for a great price, and the press was the same price as on Diapershop, so I just did as you suggested and got everything at the same place. I should get it next week. I can't wait - I'm soooo excited!

Thanks again!
