I had set aside a large area of my yard for my vegetable garden last spring but my pregnancy got in the way and I didn't start. I did, however, add lots of organic compost. Well I am ready this year. After doing some research, I decided to go with the Square Foot Gardening method. In that method, they state that hardly anyone has good gardening soil. While I was planting some seeds for starting indoors, my husband and sons were pulling weeds in the area I had previously designated as my garden. There were lots of worms. Now I have a quandary...do I still do the square foot gardening method and just use my existing soil? Or just purchase my soil a la the square foot gardening method? I am not married to any one method so I would love any advice or suggestions anyone may have. I'm asking this because I recall that the presence of worms is a very good omen for soil, right? Thanks for any help!
