HOw do I make a changing pad?

I want one that is larger for use at home and one that I can carry with me in our diaper bag. I want it to be washable and soft on one side yet, obviously, waterproof.

Can I just do a flannel top with a couple misc. layers and the bottome be PUL? Is there a better way to do this? Should I quilt the top? It seems like it should be so obvious....

I made mine to match the diaper bag I also made. It has a water resistant nylon on the back (same as the bag lining), a pretty brocade on top (same as bag fabric) with a layer of clear vinyl on top to keep the brocade from getting wet and a few layers of really heavy interfacing inside (I could have used something cushier but didn't think of that until later). Bound the whole thing in the nylon (veeeery carefully). It isn't very washable cause it could get a bit wonky but it can be wiped down on front and back.

I think if you really want a washable pad, waterproof is secondary. A layer of pul at the bottom could be helpful if your babe pees on the mat often, but more important to me was beign able to wipe poop smears off without having to wash the whole darn thing

I made one with flannel on one side and polar fleece on the other. Zig zagged the edges (don't have a serger) and stitched across at 1/3 and then 2/3's to keep the fabrics from shifting. I gave it as a shower gift but plan on making one or two for us soon.

My favorite is a woven on one side and a velour on the side touching Nathan. It's so soft. I didn't make it but it's my favorite. I'm sure you could do a hidden layer of PUL between the two fabrics if you'd like.
