The basic rules are the more Kool Aid, the brighter the color (so use less for a lighter/pastel color). The more water, the more even the color (for even color, make sure the water covers the wool completely without crowding. For a swirly/tye dye effect, use very little water). The wool sucks up the color out of the water, so eventually the water will become clear. Don't freak; this means you're about done.
The *trick* to it is using super hot water and vinegar. Whatever you do,
don't move the wool around in the hot water or it will felt.- Soak wool in a basin of hot water with a bit of vinegar until water is cool. Gently sqeeze out extra water & set aside. This strips the wool so that the color deposits more evenly.
- Add more hot water to basin & stir in Kool Aid. Gently set wool into the water, poking under parts that float up, and leave until water is CLEAR and cool.
- Gently squeeze out extra water. Add a bit of vinegar to the water & soak for a few minutes to set. Gently sqeeze out extra water & set aside.
- Wash, re-lanolize well, & dry the wool as usual before using.
