Elastic Short cuts?!

First, I don't have a serger... so I turn and topstitch, that said....

Why didn't anyone tell me YEARS ago when I was making diapers for my son that there are elastic short cuts?! It took me 2 kids and millions of hours trying to get the elastic in right to figure out a short cut?!

So, what I have been doing leaving extra allowance for anywhere I want elastic. Stitch diaper together leaving the extra allowance on outside of stitching. Attach elastic between layers outside stitches. Turn and as you topstitch just stitch in a casing. So WHY have I spent HOURs in front of the machine pulling, tugging, whining, cursing... and still messed up so much elastic?! Its sew simple...

It's like a bolt of lightning from out of the blue, isn't it?

I'm probably dense today, but I don't think I'm getting it... You leave a larger seam allowance then attach the elastic to the seam allowance? Then turn and when topstitching the seam allowance and elastic get stitched in a casing? It seems too easy!!!

Ahh yes... easy! thats the point, right?

Yep I think you got it.... just as you topstitch go round the elastic (well I even catch the ends for extra support) to make a casing....

*sigh*.... if only I had known so long ago! I do have quite a few to make now tho

Bolts of lightening should hit me more often if they are like this! I am lovin the shortcut! Yipee!
