Help...gasoline leak!

We keep a tank of gas under our house in the basement/crawlspace for the lawn mower and with the warm weather the other day we ended up with a foot of water under the house. The gas tank got submerged and the gas fumes filled our house! we had to evacuate for the past two days and so dh, me and the baby have been staying with my mom. I got home today and the gas is out of the air (thank god) but everything seems to smell like gas...the couch, our clothes, the bed everything that could possibly absorb the gas has. I really don't like using commercial cleaners so I would rather stay away from things like febreeze but if I need to use it I will. Any suggestions please. And to top it off we have a well so trying to wash all of our clothes is going to be so difficult...it'll take me weeks :*(

Oh, mama! That is just horrible. I can't imagine being surrounded by that smell. YUCK!

So, I don't have too many suggestions, but you may want to check into BioKleen's BacOut.

Its the second item from the top and it really works wonders.

As for the laundry, do you have a laundrymat near you? It might be easier to just take everything out of the house and wash it at once while someone else cleans the house?

good luck

I hope your crawl space doesn't have a dirt floor, is there any chance the gasoline got into the ground at all? I'd be testing the well water. As for cleaning the rest of the house, you need professional help...try calling the local Health Dept or town hall, or the state Dept of Envi Protection and ask them for advice. That's horrible, I'm sorry!

Thanks for the support and advice. The smells seems to be gone. Very very faint hint of it if I've been out of the house for a while and come home trying to smell for it. This snow isn't helping matters any. It's so hard trying to balance leaving windows open to air out the house and keeping it warm. And to make matters worse, when I tried to wash a load of diapers on wed when we got home I found the well had froze! Aaghh..just one problem after another! Luckily we don't drink tap water ever so If a little gas leaked into the water its not as bad. ntm all the farms on my st that most likely use fertilizer or pesticides (I really hope they are organic farms but i haven't lived here long enough to find out). Anyway, life seems to be returning to normal finally. Poor ds had such a rough week having his routine all disrupted
