Repairing diapers where the elastic is shot

I have a dozen fitted diapers that I purchased pre-made and the elastic is shot in all of them. The diapers I made at the same time that have Lastin and have been subjected to the exact same abuse (I'm anal about using them in rotation) are still working great. Can I fix them or would that be as much trouble as making new diapers? Any suggestions as to HOW I might fix them? They're made out of sherpa and serged so I really don't want to rip the old elastic out. At the same time, I don't want to just sew Lastin on the outside. Thanks!

I don't think there's much you can do without taking the diaper apart, or sewing new lastin on the outside. The elastic isn't sewn in a channel, is it? Then you could just make a small cut and pull it out. If it's stitched in I think you're kind of stuck though.

Okay, you can unpick the serging along the areas where the elastic is shot. Then unpick the elastic and sew it back in. Re-serge or if you don't have a serger, zig zag the edges back together.

Another option would be to sew the elastic on top but sew a strip of microfleece to cover it so it doesn't bother the baby.

HTH!

I had someone ask to replace elastic once, but I said it would be too much of a hassle, and the diaper would be smaller once you reserge it...

Hmmm... some good ideas. I would be zig zagging so I don't have to worry about the dipe getting smaller. Anything to save my precious LC!
