You don't HAVE to use cheesecloth or gauze-but then you might need a close friend to help you remove it! You can also tie a piece of dental floss around it to make it easier to remove. Just DON'T use mint floss! :LOL (don't ask how i know!)

nak. i just cured myself with garlic! i didn't use string, floss or anything - just a peeled clove. it was interesting getting it out in the morning, but no big deal. i also took a probiotic supplement. you should also limit your sugar and white flour intake.

I also read recently online that you can insert an acidopholis caplet vaginally 1x a week to help keep YI away..

If you're prone to them or have an active case it might be worth a try..

More than you wanted to know about curing YI naturally

I have been fighting a nasty yeast infection for more than 5 months. I started with garlic. I didn't use the cheesecloth or anything. Just remember that if you go to the bathroom half asleep in the middle of the night, there is a chance that the clove will fall out into the toilet and you won't notice it. Then you might freak out in the morning when you go to remove it. More on that later. Okay the garlic worked immediately. I even posted about it to this forum. But then a few days later, the YI returned. I tried the garlic again. No luck. If your infection isn't too bad, I do recommend the garlic as it is a safe and easy cure.

Then I moved onto peroxide vaginal washes. I bought a 10cc syringe (although you should use a 30cc syringe if you can find one) and filled it up with hydrogen peroxide. I inserted that and washed out my vagina for 5 or 6 consecutive mornings. It too cleared up the YI, but then it returned a few days later. Sigh. So I went to Planned Parenthood just to make sure I was dealing with a yeast infection.Yeast was confirmed and as I mentioned above I was also scared that I had "lost" a clove of garlic and I was reassured that I didn't. She told me that I would know. She gave me one of the prescription anti-fungal medicines. She assured me that it was fine to use while breastfeeding. I reluctantly took it home and was going to use it. I was feeling desperate. I had been fighting this for about 6 weeks at that point. I opened up the package, and well it said something along the lines of, if you are breastfeeding, you should wean your child before using the product. Okay that wasn't an option for me. So I called my midwife (who is 3000 miles away as me moved since having our baby otherwise I would have seen her about this problem). She said that none of the antifungals have been approved for breastfeeding women. So we talked about taking probiotics orally as well as vaginally. I took a huge dose orally. I know I was taking 6 capsules a day. But I can't remember the exact dosage. And I was inserting an additional one vaginally at night. I only did this vaginally for 2 nights. It was so painful. I'm not sure why. But I continued to take the probiotics for several weeks. It seemed to keep the yeast under control, but not completely. I next tried boric acid. You can buy it at any drug store near the eye washes. Then I bought veggi gel caps at our food co-op. I filled them with boric acid. I inserted one every 12 hours for 7 days. After the first day, the infection was gone. But I continued until the end of the week. I thought I had it that time. But then a day before my period began, it showed up again. During my period, it was fine again. But then as soon as my period ended, it was back. I then went to the boric acid regimind again but this time every 12 hours for 2 weeks. This again cured the infection after about a day. I was fine. Then 7 days after my next period before any signs appeared, I inserted a boric acid capsule at night. I did this two times a week until the following period. Then I did see signs of a mild yeast infection the day before that next period. So 7 days after the next period, I inserted another boric acid capsule. But then I didn't do it two times a week. I did it less often. Like first 4 days later. Then five days later, then six days later, etc. I haven't had signs of a YI in over a month. I hope it has worked. I have read that boric acid does not get absorbed into the bloodstream when inserted vaginally. So if you are breastfeeding, this is a good option if the garlic doesn't work. I know this is more than you asked to hear, but 5 or 6 months ago, I would have loved to hear this info.

If I have confused anyone, please ask questions. I seem to know a lot about natural cures for YI!
