Janome Sewing Machines

What do you think of this brand? As fas as I can tell, they are a solid brand but don't retain their value like say a Bernina. I have no idea as to what model to get either! I'm planning on making clothes, curtains, etc. I want something I am not going to outgrow but can't spend too much more than 500 for it (on ebay - much cheaper than brand new). I'd appreciate any info! I'm a beginner!

I don't have personal experience with Janome, in fact I just learned how to pronounce the name. But I do know there is a wealth of information and sewing machine reviews on Pattern Review . It is free to register.

For anyone else who is wondering, it is Ja-no-me, not Ja-nome like my feeble brain insisted.

I have a Janome sewing machine (6019QC) and serger (744D) and I them both! I've had the sewing machine about 18 months and the serger a little less than a year and I've had no problems with either -- very smooth, easy to operate and a pleasure to use.

Let me know if you want to know anything in particular about my experience with them!

Am about to get one. A real beginner machine, so I'm told, which is just what I need ... as I'm a real beginner

Janome Jem Gold ... there's a newer one that's called Silver, but it's apparently just the Gold with a different logo on it for Janome's silver anniversary, or some such.

Very reasonably priced, generally $175 - $200 brand new on eBay.

Anybody have anything terrible to say about it, please say so now ...

A friend of mine has this machine and loves it. Nothing bad to say about it over here.

Happy sewing!

Just wanted to add... Kenmore (Sears) brand is (or at least used to be) Janome machines. I have a Kenmore (made by Janome). I got it in Dec. 1996 (so 8 years ago) and it's been in heavy use ever since. I love it. It's a total work horse & has never given me a problem. My mother (who also is my business partner for Angel Wraps) has 2 Janome machines. They're fancier than mine, but she loves hers too. We also have 2 Janome sergers between us (I also have a Husqvarna) & they're workhorses too.

Do you mind if I ask you what model your Kenmore/Janome is? I'm in the market for a sewing machine. TIA

Well...I went and bought a Janome today. Haven't set it up yet...it's a 2049LX...I haven't seen any reviews...so I guess I'll just need to sew and put my own review up.

Anywho...I'll keep ya'll posted.
