What is needed to become a Waldorf teacher?

My husband is finishing up his BA in History/Theatre. He is really interested in becoming a Waldorf teacher. My dd goes to a local Waldorf. Thought I'd see if anyone here knows what you have to do.
I know you need the training courses (like at Sunbridge College) but do you need a state teacher certification or a BA in Education first? I looked at Sunbridge website and it is unclear from their catalog????

No background in education studies is required for enrolling at Sunbridge or other waldorf teacher training centers. One teacher I know started taking waldorf classes while still working as a banker.

Some Sunbridge students may not even have BA's, because not all states require private school teachers to have degrees.

Teachers in waldorf-inspired charter school (where they exist) are probably requried to be state-certified teachers.

different states are different - check with your dd's school - it will depend on what "groups" they are accredited with, etc.
but Sunbridge, etc. and other degrees are two different issues...ideally your husband would get his BA (Iwant my childs teacher to have a 4-year college education), a 2-year training degree from an AWSNA approved program (such as Sunbridge - very good program) and then whatever you need for whatever state you live in...sounds like a lot, but sounds like he is almost done with the BA - biggest part, Waldorf training certificates come in different options (for working folks, etc.)
so, good luck, we always need more qualified teachers!

There are also waldorf teachers who take summer or part-time courses and teach in schools while they are learning. This is not ideal, but I've known a number of people who have gone that route and ended up as good teachers.

He might want to check out the Antioch program. They have a high school teacher option.

I just came here to ask a question like this. After visiting my local Waldorf school I decided that I really want to be a Waldorf teacher. I don't have any college level education yet, but I am enrolled to start at community college in the fall. I've been looking into training programs and was also unclear about needing a degree. Does anyone know about the Waldorf Institute of the Great Lakes? Their website mentioned something about an option for getting a BA, but didn't go into detail about it.

As some said it depends on your state's requirements and those of a particular school. Obviously, having a BA would make moving easier. I was a class teacher and had excellent "reviews" and did not have a college degree. I don't care what kind of degrees my child's teacher has- life experience, true intelligence and self-education are more important to me.
