Instructions for the Pillowcase dress with pictures :)

(lacey don't look at the pictures should you happen to read this! LOL)

Instructions: PillowCaseDress (copied from my blog)

# You need a shirt and a pillow case cut to the length you want for a dress.
# I serged the top of the pillow case (where it was cut) to prevent fraying, and then did a baste stich with the machine (longest length, 0 width, left each end open)
# Then I gathered the material by carefully pulling it over the string all around the waist
1

# I continued gathering until I had reached the width of the shirt I was using

2

# I flipped the right sides together (skirt is inside out in this picture) and pinned around the waist to hold in place aprox 2 inches below armpit line

3

# I sewed with a straight stich (aprox 2.5 length) around the waist with the bottom of shirt facing machine. You can do this twice for added security if you'd like

4

# I hemmed the bottom and added some lace to this example because it was actually just fabric, but with the other pillow case dresses pictured below, I just left the pillowcase bottom as is.

Thanks for the tutorial!!!

I just made one similar using this pattern. It took me less than 1 hour and cost about $1 to make.

Pillowcase (from thrift store) : .59
Ribbon: .25
Thread: ~ .10

DD will have an entire closet full!!!!

Those dresses are great! Good timing too, as DD keeps saying she wants more dresses!

Tricia, could you explain the armholes for the pattern you posted? I don't get it.

After cutting the pillowcase to the length, I folded the dress in half and cut once cutting both arm holes in to J shapes 1.5" in to the neck and 3" down.

Here is a dress I made out of material based on a pillowcase.

I used this pattern Scroll down to June 23rd.
