On our drive today- any farmers out there?

Ds and I took a drive today to look for cows and horses.
We found a ton of cows- and even some babies!! I love the spring time!
There is one place I take him that has bulls- and they are really- I mean really close to the fence- so you get up and personal with them( we obviously stay in the car!)
It is a great spot as we can pull over and oggle these HUGE creatures.
Well- today they were resting- and then they stood up
And one bull began to urinate- and another cow- bent down under and drank the urine.
I am not at all trying to be vulgur-
But I had never heard of this- and neither had my mom or dh!
Any farmers out there?
It was kinda sad- because I thought that possibly the bull was missing his mama- but he seemed full grown- and then I thought- maybe they do not have enough water?
I am so curious!

You know, I've seen giraffes at the zoo do this too. Let me tell you, a giraffe can pee for a loooooong time... it really amazed us

NO- that is fine- I just thought that it was kinda random silliness...

Farm girl here!

Most animals are opportunists. If they are hungry, they will eat whatever they find. If they are thirsty, well, same idea. The cattle see the [waste]water and think (inasmuch as they can) "huh, I could go for a little drink right now" Our barn cats lick upspilled milk. That is really the same idea (but in a less taboo context to us, as we see fit to consume milk)

It is not uncommon for the ag industry to "recycle" (as my FIL puts it) For instance, it is a common practice to use chicken doo as livetsick feed (not us, we have hormone free, pastured cattle) Feed lots use that sort of feed.

Our pigs LOVE to be turned into a pen where cattle has been held... :LOL

TMI...I know! :LOL
