Zoloft anyone?

Hi.
I think I might have PPD even though dd is 15 mo and has been pretty sick for the last 7 1/2 mo. We also moved from COlorado when she was 6 mo to NY, wrecked a car, and DH has had trouble finding work so we're going through our savings and I haven't been able to work cuz dd has been sick. I finally started zoloft 25 mg for one week and then increased it per dr order to 50 mg about one week ago. THe anxiety/stress is horrible and around the clock so even ambien is only helping me get 5-6 hours of sleep. I can only get 2 hours of sleep on my own and wake up then take the ambien and get another 4 or so.The doc thinks it may take one more week for the zoloft to kick in and does not want to increase it yet. Everyone wants me to see a psychiatrist and I problbly need to. Any advice?

Poor thing! You are going through a lot. A psychiatrist sounds like a good idea.

Zoloft did not agree with me and I seem to remember reading that it's not well-suited for "situational anxiety" which it sounds like might be your problem. Anyway, it gave me a very speedy feeling and it was really hard for me to sleep. Prozac worked better for me.

Now I am pg and am taking six pills of fish oil a day (no more Prozac), which has helped with my winter depression immensely -- worth looking into, IMO as it can't hurt you and has lots of other good stuff going for it. Hope things settle down soon!

I just went and checked prescribing info for Zoloft. Check out this page, click on Dosage:

My doc started me at 50 mg. According to the above link; this is the standard starting dose. I started to feel some relief almost right away, but I still had someone stay with me at all times until I reached my therapeutic level (100 mg for a week).

Has your doc increased you to 75 mg yet?

After an initial week of feeling really insane I found it leveled me out. Keep in mind that you may notice early.... do you have freinds who know when you started the drug who can give you an honest reaction?
