PPD vs reg depression,..transient episodes

Hi, I'm feeling great today but I've been having awful days lately. I took the PPD quiz and scored 48 - is it even worth pursuing?
No bad feelings about my kids, just depressed with life in general - and some days I really feel great and then the next day I feel so awful about life its weird.
Maybe I just need to get out? I'm a SAHM and DH works LONG hours, but even days that I have "fun" stuff going on the feeling sometimes hits. Mostly when I'm alone with the kids (or right as DH is heading out the door I just want him to stay with me???)
Hmmm, anybody else experience this?
DS is 25mths and DD is 7mths _ and I'm tandem nursing which is fine except sometimes I feel like I'm loosing patience with DS who nurses way more than his infant sister. But, if I say no he whines and cries and that makes me feel even worse so I just let him nurse that way at least he's quiet and happy.
Thoughts, anyone???

me...all the time. I just recently came to terms with the fact that I really need to do something about this (e.g. meds, but just found out I was pg, so will put it on hold until after 1st trimester). I've actually been somewhat depressed since I was a child/teen, but at first didn't know what it was and later, didn't think it was so bad, as I was actually able to work, go to school, etc. Now that I am a SAHM, it has just gotten really bad. I'm not excited about life, not social, and not really motivated to do anything.
BTW, there is a condition of lowgrade depression called dysthymia. I used to score below 40 on the test, a few weeks ago I was at 40 and most recently 58.

I'm hoping this posts, I've been getting booted off lately when I try to post.

Whether it is regular depression or ppd doesn't really matter. That quiz is great for many, but for me, my symptoms don't really show up with a high number. My depression sets in about two months before I get my first post partum period -- I got it back with this child the week after he turned a year (I got it right before we went out of town last weekend. ) For me, I have a lot of anxiety about my health, and some feelings of just apathy. So much of that quiz is about feelings toward new babies, so if your babe is older, it can be tough to see where you stand.

My feeling is that if you are questioning whether depression is a problem or not -- it is. It's now up to you to decide how to proceed. Talking to a trusted doctor is a great place to start.

I think a lot of moms feel depressed here and there. It is a really tough job, no breaks, etc and being alone a lot is hard.

You have really young kids too and they need and take a lot from you. IT can physically and mentally deplete you. Make sure you get some time for "you" sometimes just so you can recharge a little bit.

Make sure you eat really well, esp since you are nursing two babies.

I think a lot of moms feel the way you describe some of the time, but not all the time, it's just no one will openly admit it, etc.

But if you feel it's a problem for you I would mention it to your doctor.
