Advocating at MOPS

We had a nutritionist come and speak at MOPS today- she was talking about osteoporosis(sp), heart disease, obesity, breast cancer, diabetes, etc., etc so I had to chime in and share that breastfeeding helps prevent/mitigate all of those both for mother and child. She was so unabashedly pro-breastfeeding- it was awesome!

Cool!

I went to MOPS a couple of times and was considering joining just because my first experience there was rather upsetting and I thought I might be able to be a calm force for change. Then I said to heck with it.

How wonderful that a positive breastfeeding message was sent!

I joined because of peer pressure.

That's wonderful, AnnetteMarie! I love when people advocate so well -- especially when you least expect it! Glad you had a good speaker!

Well, I don't know how good she is- she actually suggested that we exercise.

When I first saw the title to the post my first thought was "good luck!" :LOL glad to hear it went well.

What did the other moms say about breastfeeding? Did they seem to take well to all of that?

Oh that's great! I go to MOPS and the last meeting I went to they were advocating. Ezzo. I swear I felt so uneasy and I told my entire table what I thought of Ezzo and not to pick up one of the books the speaker was giving away. I told them I felt that way of parenting was child abuse! They all kind of just looked at me, but I dont care!!

Most of the moms do breastfeed, and they all know I am a crazy LLL person, so they didn't take it personally. One mom looked unhappy, but, hey. What are you going to do?

I totally would have been raising my hand and interrupting that speaker.

I should have, but at the time I didn't have enough info to back me up. So I didn't. I just sat there with a blank stare ready to vomit out my chicken salad.
