Easter eggs & playsilks

Thread Starter
We're having an Easter egg dying party on Saturday night and I ordered some 21x21 playsilks to dye up, too! I figure they'll look really neat and be a great treat for the kids coming. We'll do the silks at the end with the leftover dye. I figure the vinegar in the dye and a couple minutes in the microwave will set them nicely!

From searching, there's a lot of posts on natural dyes, and I'm interested in more ideas for different dying techniques. I found this link which has some fun ideas, including marbelized (with oil in the dye) and tissue paper.

Any other neat egg dying ideas that aren't purchased as a kit from the store?

TIA

Ooo, good thread idea! I have found that onion skins, tumeric, red cabbage and beets make the best easter egg dyes. We also blow eggs and let the kid's paint them with water colors and hang on the easter tree. I take goose eggs, cut a little "window" out of them (slowly scratch a circle with a exacto knife) and either paint a scene inside, put a little nest inside, or make a little bunny or bird out of colored beeswax or felted wool. If I am feeling really ambitious we do pysanky eggs (ukranian batik-style colored eggs), but I don't think I am up for it this year. Have fun dying your eggs and silks!
