Am I going insane? Please help me before I hurt someone...or something

First off hello I've been lurking for awhile and have received a lot of invaluable advice on here without ever having to post a question, so thank you. I'm coming out of lurkdom because I couldn't find what I'm looking for. I just got a serger (yes another serging ? ) I'm having major issues with it. I bought it used, the guy said his wife only used it 2x and just got bored and never used it again. So good deal right? NOT. I hate this thing. Here are my issues.

#1 My upper looper thread keeps getting caught on the finger thingy : It keeps wrapping itself around and won't come lose unless I yank on the chain. When I'm serging :LOL I have to keep pulling on it (like elastic) to keep it from choking. I've adjusted just about everything and rethreaded twice, blew it out, and brushed it out, oiled it and now I'm about throw it right through a cement wall and see if that fixes it. I don't know what else to do.

#2 This is the thing that I really cannot for the life of me wrap my head around When I'm serging, or should I say trying to serge, my thread comes out of my needles without breaking. How on earth is this possible? Am I losing my mind? Has David Copperfield possessed my White 6000? I swear the needles were threaded, how did they come out with out breaking?

I just bought this serger to hold me over until I get my Janome out of Layaway, and now I'm wondering if I'll be able to handle the real deal if I can't handle this dang thing.

Okay, I am really bad when it comes to threading my machine, I have had both of your problems. I know the thread coming out without breaking was really driving me batty. My husband thought I was nuts. My advice, cuz I never figured out why these things happened either. Do you have the manual? Totally unthread it. And then after a couple of hours of relaxing and not thinking about the machine, rethread it. It usually solves my problems. If not, what you may be able to do, if no one else on here can figure this out, is call a white dealer, or another sewing machine service store. Some of them will help you over the phone. Say something like, I recently bought this white serger, so they don't have to know it wasn't from them. But most of my problems are solved by rethreading, and messing with the tension. Of course, it is always possible that the lady you bought it from used it twice and broke it. I hope that that isn't what happened though.

Hmm. Before you hurt the machine or yourself :LOL, honestly - try having a nice cup of tea and then rethread it. It's amazing what a difference taking a break will do when you're about to chuck a machine out the window of a moving car... One thing - make sure that the upper looper thread goes UNDER the lower looper thread when it goes under the presser foot (I hope that was clear). Otherwise, your chain won't form properly. That might help a little...I hope.

The lady at my sewing center said with sergers think TNT. thread, needles, tension. That it is usually the problem in that order. completely rethread, check your needles(still good in right place - my machine has a couple of choices for the spec. stitch being done) then check tension

I hope it is not broke.
good luck.

I've decided to take a break, before I kill it. Right now I'm organizing my sewing room, (basement :LOL ) Maybe if I organize all my fabric I'll won't buy anymore. Yeah, okay so maybe that was a stupid thing to say, hehehehe. After I'm all done w/ the fabric I'll try to fix it, I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks ladies, I'm glad I'm not losing my mind. I'm hoping the next serger I get will just work like it's supposed to. The problem is the serger I have, the handbook is a grand total, of count them, FOURTEEN, yes 14 pages. HUH? How is that supposed to help me? It only has 4 troubleshooting steps. Anyhoo, I feel my blood boiling just thinking about it, so I'll just stop while I'm ahead, well, slightly behind, but you get the idea.
