Question about finishes for wood

I want to put a finish on a wood table for my son, and I'm looking for something non-toxic. I thought I read somewhere that Touch of Beeswax was good, since it's made of orange oil and beeswax, but I just got the bottle I ordered, and it says it's harmful for children and that it contains some petroleum product. Um...so it it safe or isn't it? Also, I'm hoping to use something that will protect the wood from water, crayon marks, etc. Will this do the trick?
If not, what product should I get? Thanks!

The petroleum product is probably to make it spreadable. I have no idea on the toxicity though.
You could use tung oil, just make sure it is 100% pure. It resists water stains and is really easy to clean up. http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...at=1,190,42942

Also, a salad bowl wax, which is usually beeswax and mineral oil would be a good finish. If you are concerned, go to a wood store and tell them you need a food-safe finish.
