Pregnant Moms with Toddlers in Tow

Hi,

Thought I'd start a thread for those of us experiencing the joy of caring for a toddler while pg!

I have just been thinking all the time how different it is this time! Even taking the hpt, last time I waited till I was alone at home, and did it by myself and had time to think about what it all meant- this time ds was with me in the bathroom, trying to flush the toilet, trying to grab the test, wanting me to pick him up....arrrggghhhh!

And last time when I felt sick, I would just sit quietly over breakfast, lie down, whatever. Now no matter how sick I feel I have to chase him all around, get him dressed, look at him mushing food everywhere (puke).

And the worry about who is going to take care of ds when the baby comes- we don't have any family around and I don't know who I could call if it's in the middle of the night!

And dh and I have barely talked about the pregnancy- we have just been too darn busy and tired and by the end of the day I go to bed before we've had a chance to talk.

It will be interesting to see how it goes as the months go by!

This is my 5th baby, so I've done the "pregnant with toddlers" a couple times over. The thing that kills me is that I have 2 in diapers right now and the poop is just KILLING me!!

By late afternoon, I am dead. So surviving the night means getting everything done that I possibly can in the morning. We are eating out of the crock pot a lot and doing take out quite a bit. I get the kid's snacks ready for when they get home from school and try and manage the crew from the couch. DH makes a point to come home and help me with dinner and bedtime even if it means he has to go BACK out to work until later at night. It doesn't really matter anyway, since I'm in bed by 8p!!!

Austin will be 25 months when this baby arrives! I know it will be hard the first year but this age gap is just what my hubby and i wanted.

hi! mine will both be 26 months when baby arrives... i'm pretty dead some days as well. it's funny because when i was pg with the twins i thought i could NEVER do this with a toddler... but it's going pretty well so far. i'm worried about what i'll do when i get big enough that i can't pick the boys up though. i think that would really crush them not to be able to be picked up by mama. i suppose lots of snuggle time on the couch will be in order.

My sentiments exactly! Luckily DS#1 does usually go poopy on the potty but my younger DS's diapers are sometimes enough to make me :Puke

This is baby #4 for me. My first two were really close together, my oldest was only 5 months old when I concieved--they are 14 months apart. Josh was still too little to understand if I was throwing up (everyday).

The two of them were 5 and 6 when I had Ethan. They were so busy playing with each other that my morning sickness didn't bother them. Except when I was in the middle of homeschooling them, and they needed my help. Then they just had to wait.

I usually get morning sickness pretty badly, and it hasn't really shown up yet, except a little of nausea. I hope that it stays that way. But, I worry how my toddler (he's 27 months now) will handle it. He gets worried if I am in distress of any kind. I wonder how I am going to deal with everything that I will have to do and morning sickness. It should prove intersting to say the least.

Beyond morning the morning sickness stage, It will be "why can't I crawl all over you, Mommy?" with my toddler. I dealt with it before, and I will deal with it again. I think it will be a bit more difficult with Ethan though because he is my most adventurous and it's very difficult to make him slow down.

My dh was in the military for the first three--something always worked out for someone to watch the kids, it will happen for you too. We may be moving soon (dh is interviewing for a new job), so I hope this time we will move near family.

DD will be exactly 24 months when babe #2 arrives. Like the OP said, DH and I have barely even had time to think about this pregnancy yet!

Ooooh! The poop smell! Is it just me or did it go from being slightly unpleasant to pungent overnight? Yikes.

Itsybitsy (sorry didn't catch your name before I hit reply) My dd was UP trying to grab the pee cup while I was desperately hoping for a positive. lol. Things are going to be different this time around. I remember being so sick with DD that dh would leave for work in the morning and come home to find me still in bed. lol. Not going to have that luxury this time. Praying for an easier time of M/S.

i thought id come say hi too.. my son is 2 and 2 months.. he will be almost 3 when the baby comes. he is mostly potty trained, so thats arelief to me.. smells really bother me right now. he is really into having a baby. his cousins are visiting and i asked him if he wants a baby sister and he said "yes!" it is definitly harder with a toddler. im feeling so tired and sick and he still needs me soo much. when i was pregnant with him i could lie down whenever i needed and sleep in and eat what i wanted when i wanted it.. now its him fisrt me second, but i love him so much and it will be so nice to share this baby with him!

My younger DS will be 26 months when this one arrives so I'm pretty freaked out about how to handle two so young! Thankfully I still have milk so at least he's getting his na-na's. I hope it lasts for a while.

DD will be 24 mos when this second one arrives. Right now my biggest guilt is over not giving her good stimulation- I'm very nauseous and extremely tired with this one and leave it to DH or good old Sesame Street DVDs to keep DD active. We just bought a house and we're packing to move so I've been very distracted...poor DD. She BFs and cosleeps still, so it's not all bad

I'm having a hard time BFing, tho, cuz it's demanding a lot on my body. I'm underweight and the PG is making food very unappetizing. My Ns are really sore too. (sigh)

BUT the spacing is perfect...it's what we wanted. We have family who help a lot so that's keeping me sane.

DD1 is 4 years old. DD2 is 15 months old. They'll be 4.5 and almost 24 months when this baby comes. So, I'm looking at being really, really busy! :LOL

I guess I'm so used to poopy diapers by now, that they aren't bothering me. The nausea is coming at different times. I thought it wasn't supposed to hit until around 8 weeks!

DD is 4; DS is 18 months. I am nauseous and tired all the time, which is depressing me. DS wants to nurse frequently and I am trying to wean him (though have mixed feelings) b/c I find it really distastful right now. I can see that DD is concerned and I don't really know what to say, as I'm not ready to tell her I am pg (and even if I did, she'd still be concerned). I'm glad to see I am in good company here.

Joining this thread. Even though *technicaaly* DS isn't really a toddler yet (he's 11mo) he sure acts like one. He's walking in full force and testing limits daily. Keeping up w/ him while being pg is definitely becoming more and more difficult. The poopy dipes arent' really bothering me, I have a pretty strong stomach and worked in child care taking care of infants when pg w/ DS, so I guess I just got used to the smell, :LOL.

ItsyBitsy~ I'm in a similar boat worrying about what to do w/ DS when the L'il Bean comes. While we were planning a homebirth, it looks like we'll be in the hospital and I just don't know where DS is going to go. He's so unbelievably attached that I worry it will almost traumatize him being separated for this next birth.
