I have a close friend who has a month old baby. She has been exclusivly bfding since birth. The baby's father ( they were together until she was about 8 months pregnant) thinks he can take the baby on weekends and is fighting for custody of him. Has anyone been thorugh this and what info can you give to help me support her legally? She does not want the baby to have formula and does not want him at this age to be away over night. Any inof would be a great help! -thanks Laura

Maybe the new AAP recommendations would help.

Could she contact a LLL leader in her area?

OMG! This is terrible! At one month the baby is still probably nursing every 1 - 2 hours, and possibly every 3 - 4 hours at night, if not more. There is no way the mommy and baby can be seperated for that length of time. I am so sad reading your friends situation. I really hope she has a good lawyer and gets a decent judge who is BFing friendly. DS was close to 4 months before I left him for more than an hour, I couldn't imagine for the whole night much less the whole weekend!

Sorry I can't offer any advice but I hope your friend's situation turns out ok and keep us posted.

I would encourage your friend to contact LLL an ask to speak to someone in the legal dept. They will be able to give advice and possibly recommend an attorney. If your friend happens to be in the Philadelphia area, I can recommend one. Otherwise, LLL would be where I'd suggest she start.

Good luck to her!
