Kimberton Waldorf?

Anyone's kids attend Kimberton Waldorf. I was curious for any info on the 7th grade teacher and if they are likely to go back into 1st grade in 2 years. We go to a Waldorf school now but since we are wanting to continue into high school maybe it's better just to start there now?
Any info on how you feel about the school in general is of course also welcome. We just love our school now so it's a hard choice!

Why not just stay at your present school till the end of 8th grade and then switch? I think making the change between 8th and 9th grade would be quite natural, but to leave during the grade school (unless you are unhappy with the teacher) makes for an unnatural gap.

Of course, my daughter left her class at the end of 7th grade because we were moving away. I don't think leaving her class bothered her that much, but going into public school did!

HS is really different anyway. But perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question?

My dd is in Kindergarten now so she hasn't entered the grades. She would start in 2 years. I actually would (and still probably will) keep her there until 8th and look into high school at that point, but I have a 2 year old son who would then be switching in 5th grade - just checking out options. My dh is also now looking for another job so the timing seems appropriate.

Okay, now I get the picture. You have a lot of pieces to consider, don't you? Good luck working it all out.

I'm not helping at all, just wondering: are you going to the Susq. Waldorf school in Marietta?

Yes we are in Marietta and LOVE IT! I'm only checking into Kimberton because my husband is looking for another job and Philly area would probably make it easier to find. Plus they have a high school.

Lauraess- my son's b-day is 3/2 too! My dd b-day is 1/22 but her duedate was 1/11-----weird?
Do you know anything about the Kindergarten teacher(s)? That's what my dd would be in next year.

Thanks for keeping an ear open about the 7th grade teacher - you never know if a teacher is going to repeat another 8 years so it's all just "what if's" at this point. At our school it's so small you usually have a good idea of what teachers will stay and who will go.

We just bought our house here and love that too so moving is not in our immediate plans - just thought I'd poke around. We are going to visit Kimberton in April though so maybe we can meet up?

Well thanks for the info, sorry the first post was so unclear - it was early or late or something!

My DD will probably end up at the New School (Mntsri), b/c her dad blows a fuse when he hears that Waldorf incorporates Norse Legends/ Fairy Tales in the education. Otherwise, she would be off to Marietta next year.

What, in particular, bothers him about that?

Thanks, David

Elfie> I do know about the teachers currently in kingdergarten. They are really great, different yes, but great. Lynn De mont is more 'animated' and 'artsy'. Where Valerie is firm and steady and kind and gentle. Both could be described as 'grandmotherly' as I believe kindergarten teachers in Waldorf are often expected to be.
April is looking good of course, since spring is opening up all sorts of plans!
Where is Marietta?
so, your Dd's date due was the 11th of Jan '01??? no way! And your sons birthday is March 2?? how old is he? Yes that is really really odd. Truly. Do you have two sons?

Lauraess - my son is 2 and my daughter is 5.

Marietta is right on the Susquehanna River, west of Lancaster. Our kinder teachers sound the same as Kimbertons! I'm part of the Food for Thought (lunch program) comittee in our school and we are coming up to observe Kimberton's program. We will probably come to your Spring Fair as well...

elfie: okay, so you've got the dd who is older than my dd but was due on my dd's b.date and your ds was born on my ds's b date but just 5 yrs later. Did i get that right now, or are we both confused???

Our food for thought does a great job and you should probably glean a lot from them as they have been doing it for quite some time.

Let me know when the day is That you are coming and maybe we can meet in the afternoon-- my son is finished at 1:00 and that is about when the lunch staff is wrapping up.

i didn't go to kimberton myself, but my best friends did, and i visitied the school. i know the eurythmy teacher personally, and he is awesome. i am instant messaging with my friend who went there right now and her words exactly are: "kimberton is awesome. kimberton is really old, and solid. it has a lot of tradition, and has a lot of stability. the teachers know what they are doing, and for the most part look out for their students"
