We want to build a chicken coop for 6 layers-standard size. Not too big, I guess small enough, so that so we can reach in and clean/gather eggs. Any ideas?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Here's a list of LOTS of different chicken coop plans. You should be able to find at least one that will meet your needs

Just be sure...
Make sure you put a top on your pen - when we got our first chickens, we lost three of them in one night to an owl.Maybe you could find a copy of the book Chicken Tractor - it has great ideas - I just checked out a copy from the library.
HTH!

for ours we made a 8'x4'x4'x3' sized house (lookes like a mobile home w/o the wheels) base is a free palate and a heavy sheet of 8x'4' wood, then framed it w/ 2x4's and used scrap wood/shed siding for the front to be 4' high and the back to be3' high and the roof slopes and has roofing shingles on it. both ends have a door on them...one side we put food and water in and the other has the nest boxes. I use a long handled rake to clean out the hen house and a little scoop to clean out the nest boxes. the pen is 24'x17' ish with a netting top, we had a hoop made with cattle pannel for climbing tomatoes before it but it works for holding the netting up some. It works for us for now, but can't wait to give the girls more room.
