WHY are my nipples so sore??

my daughter is 8 months old. she has been breastfed since birth and thus far it's really been smooth sailing... up until about a week ago, when my nipples started getting really sore. and every day it's been getting a little worse.

what is going on?? there's no signs of thrush or mastitis. she doesn't have any teeth yet but some are coming in -- could this be it??

I dont know, but I am interested in the answer. In the last few days one nipple is really sore and looks a little cracked. She has 2 teeth though. Hopefully someone will know.

When my dd was about that age and starting to use a sippy cup, her latch got worse and started causing me pain. Could it be something like that? Also, someone I know who had unexpected nipple pain found out that it was an early sign that she was pregnant.

When my dd got her top two teeth my nips were really sore for a while I think she was clamping down to ease the pain of teething and thus making it hard for me. The top two teeth were much harder than the bottom two.

Good luck, hope you start feeling better soon.

I get super sore nipples in the week before my period. Have your cycles returned? Could you be pregnant?

I was also going to ask if AF was coming or if you could be pregnant? I could always tell when AF was coming, I would almost cry when I had to pump at those times.

please do NOT suggest i might be pregnant!!

:

my daughter recently started using her sippy cup more often, and i *have* noticed that her latch has been... a little sloppier lately. not really *bad* but she'll latch on and be nursing, and then after a few minutes she starts looking around... and pop off, then try to latch back on while paying attention to something else entirely and be like, *nibble nibble oh! nipple nipple!*

thank you all for the advice. maybe i should stop giving her a sippy cup as often??

Mine get really sore during nursing when I ovulate, it is how I knew my first af was on her way (but Dylan was 2 years old, not 8 mos).

With my dd, I think I still gave her the sippy cup, although you could try a cup with a straw, a cup with handles, etc. But I was very vigilant about her latch and would unlatch her immediately when she started to slip down on the nipple or anything like that.
