We mostly dig in the dirt, and the mud. We planted peas on the Equinox. I made a fire pit out of a wok (we live in town but can't quite get used to it) and we make little campfires and cook mud pies on them. Any fun ideas to play with while we indulge our spring fever?

oh my-we can't get used to town either! anyway-we love to just hang out in the backyard and check out all the bugs and such starting to do their thing
we have a finch feeder and now their feathers are really turning yellow again after winter. they are soo cute. my ds almost 6 climbed a tree and found the beginnings of a bird nest and was so proud to bring it to me,I had to tell him it is better leaving new spring nests where they are.
we have kept a nature journal for a few years,we aren't real diligent about drawing or journaling in it but always in the beginning of a new season we do.
sitting on a blanket readingstories is fun too!
Happy Spring to You!

I am really hoping to do more gardening w/the kids this year. They have helped a little past years, but now that they are older, I think they will enjoy it so much more. Even if you don't have a yard, container gardening can be quite succesful.
We have a fenced in yard, so I love to be able to just let the kids do their own thing & use their imaginations. My ds has been learning about volcanos, so yesterday he & dd were "digging a ditch for the lava" around the sandbox (and I caught ds trying to secretly fill his sister's hood w/sand
, but all part of the fun).Yup, we definately have spring fever here!

I grew up in an apartment in the city, so having so much nature available in my own backyard is really new to me!
I'm looking forward to trying out some new gardening this spring - I know very little but I just sort of use trial and error!
I also want to make our yard more fun for DD. We have a big swingset and a hammock, but I'm trying to think of other things to add. I wish we had a low enough branch to hang a tire swing. You know, a really long one that goes up very high...
There's this really cool idea in an old issue of Family Fun about making a playhouse out of a tunnel of greenery that grows on a frame you build out of PVC pipe and chicken wire. I may try that!

DD and I are both dying to get our bike out of the basement. I am planning to do it this weekend.
We moved from an apt to a house last summer, but we mostly just tried to keep the weeds in check last year. This summer we are planning to make a little part of the garden's DD's, and put our placenta in the ground. We'll also find a corner where we won't plant anything at all and she can just dig for all she's worth. We keep coming across storybooks where the mama gives her child grief for digging up the flowerbeds, so I've told DD it will not be a problem at our house!
We made our first trip down to the beach on Sunday, DD's 3rd birthday. It was brisk, but DD loved it. Its our favourite place to be together as a family. She had a big grin on her face the whole time. There is nothing like just throwing rocks into the water, eh?

No beach here, but when we can get to the creek we are purely happy. And it's almost warm enough not to have to try to stay dry.
Lunamom, here are my 2 favorite things to make the yard awesome for kids: a dirt pile (not anything built, just some dirt where there's no garden plan), and a bunch of sticks and boards. DS has a beaver lodge made of the sticks that blew down last year--it just looks like a stick pile but for him it's his special place. I want a swing too.
