Homeopathic remedies for depression?

Hi all,

On the advice of my therapist, I'm seeing a very good pharmacologist about my antidepressant medications (I've been on them pretty much on and off for about 20 years) -- my therapist thinks the celexa I've been on for awhile isn't doing as much as it could. Anyway, I'm in the process of "tinkering" with various dosages of both celexa and now wellbutrin.

As the dosages go up, I'm feeling more and more aware that I'm being chemically altered, and I just don't like the idea of that. I mean, I know the medications have pretty much saved my life over the years, but I still hate the fact that I'm putting these foreign substances into my system.

The pharmacologist is also a homeopath (amazing that I've found BOTH a medical doctor and a homeopath in the same person in this country!!!), and he says it's up to me whether I want to go the western route or homeopathy. I've gone for the "sledge hammer" approach of antidepressants, but now i'm wondering if I should go the other way.

My question: has anyone used homeopathy to successfully treat depression? How has it been?

Any feedback would be much appreciated --

I was able to treat my ante-partum depression with Ignatia (not sure of potency, but high). It worked immediately and completely. But it only lasted for a month, at which point I would have needed another dose, but was not under the care of a competent homeopath, and had questions about which remedy and at what potency. So I went the naturopathic route.

But yes, homeopathy is especially good at dealing with depression. The mood is the first thing to improve when the right remedy is chosen. But after many years of suppressive therapy, it may be a bit more complicated. I would venture to guess that it could be done, though. Especially if your homeopath is good.

Yes, homeopathy is quite safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. Here's a link to a great homeopathy forum. It's populated by a lot of practicing homeopaths who could answer any more questions you might have.

we've recently been using aurum metallicum for my son who was dx adhd. i mention this because one of the issues for him was a sense of hopelessness. nothing was right, clothing was an issue and he was almost always worried and stressed out. when he was ill, nothing would ever make him feel better. this was how he felt anyways.

the right remedy can make all the difference in the world. my son is now happy, relaxed and engaged. so cool!

there are alot of good "depression" remedies, you just have to see which one matches you most closely! always the case in homepathy- i'm sure your homeopath can help select the one you need.
