If Your Water Breaks IN Water....

If you are laboring in the water, how will you know if your water has broken? Can you see it, or feel it?
I wonder because I would like to stay home for as long as possible before going to the hospital, and would like to take a warm bath to ease the contractions, but I want to know if my water breaks.

I was laboring in water when my water broke... I could *feel* it... I felt a tiny pop sensation (no pain at all) and a *rushing* feeling... my midwife looked in and said "Your water just broke". Yeah, I figured that! ~Laughs~

My water broke in my tub and I felt it (I thought it was my mucous plug for some reason). We could also see tons of vernix floating around...so that's how we knew.

My water didn't break until right before my dd was born, but yeah, I felt it. A pop and a rush....

I think you would see the fluid in the water but aside from that if you got out of the tub you'd still have water coming out when you moved around.

The 2 times my water broke during labor I could feel it. Def pop sensation. The 2 times it broke during birth I couldn't. Once was because the head was already out :LOL , the other was because I had an epi.

Mine broke in the water when I first began to push. I felt a popping sensation and I said to my mw, "i think my water just broke." She looked in & said it had. There was some amniotic sac floating around in the tub.

This thread just makes me wonder more where my water went! I took a shower before I went to the hospital so if it broke, it broke there, but I never had leaking or anything after and I know it didn't/wasn't broken in the hospital. So the consensus is I didn't have any fluid or very little to start w/...

I also felt a definite *pop* in the water.

With my first birth, my water broke in the pool. It was a definite pop. It certainly didn't hurt, but it was a really big pop. Of course, it was also the moment that my posterior baby turned. An odd sensation...

My water broke shortly after I got into the birthing pool. I felt the strongest urge to push that you could ever imagine, I screamed and involuntarily pushed with all of my might and POP! My waters broke with great force and my DH said that he could just see the amniotic fluid shooting out of me. It really couldn't have been more obvious.

FWIW, all of the pain and pressure ended as soon as that happened! I immediately felt much better and my contractions went from wild to barely even there anymore. He was born about 30 minutes later after only one or two gentle pushes.

MY water broke in the tub also. It was a gentle pop feeling and there was a small amount of amniotic fluid. She was really engaged so most of the fluid was behind her. I couldn't get the knack of pushing in the tub so got out. Just after her head was born, there was a big gush that soaked the bed and dh as all the amniotic fluid behind her came out with her shoulders!
