Ideas for a pretzel themed party?

I'm trying to think of fun b-day party games for my ds. He will be turning 5 this summer and I'd like to do something funner (and cheaper) than the Chuck E Cheese or Pump It Up parties that everyone in our neck of the woods does.

We have fun at home making "Auntie Anne's" style pretzels, and I thought this might be fun to do with the kids. I'd have the dough all ready and let them roll out their pretzels and bake them.

I was trying to think of other games too. So far I have: Twister and a relay race (holding a straight pretzel in the mouth and then passing a regular pretzel from person to person).

Any other ideas?

You could do a pretzel toss - tossing the pretzel into various shaped containers, each case w/a different prize.

When I was in elementary school (back in the 60s, so I am really using my memory here and probably have some of this wrong), we played a schoolyard game called "Dr. Pretzel." Basically, the person who was It turned their back and the other kids linked hands, then wove in and out of each other's arms, trying to make the most complicated pretzel knot they could. Then, when everyone is good and giddy and off balance they all yell out, "Dr. Pretzel, Dr. Pretzel, can you help us? We're all tied up in knots!" It then has to carefully untwist the knot without breaking any links...

I have played this game with 5 yr-olds who had a great time doing it...The best thing is that basically there are no winners or losers, just everyone having a good time. And lots of giggles...as with twister.

You could extend the theme to knots in general and do some fun craft stuff with lanyards...but it's fun to make pretzels too!

Darlindelia'smom. That is a great idea. I can see this age group loving that. Good physical activity too, to channel some of that 5 year old energy.
