Sequioa Love has arrived!

Just wanted to share my exciting news w/ all of you homebirthin' mamas and mamas-to-be. My precious lil gal, Sequoia Love, made her splashing entrance into the world at noon on 10/08, in the birthing tub. She weighed in at 7lbs 10oz, 20in long.....quite smaller than what ds was at birth, 9lbs.I Iabored for about 22hrs and my water hadn't broke yet, and contractions were intense. My midwife did a cervical check and I was only 1-2cm, much to everyone's surprise. I tried to lay down and rest, just to catch up on some energy, but 1 1/2 hrs later I had an extreme urge to push, so my midwife checked again and I was already fully dilated! I got in the birthing tub and started pushing. 5 mins into it, my water broke. 15 minutes after that, I pushed her out on hands and knees, and instinctivly turned around and swooped her up into my arms and brought her to my chest. It was such an amazing experience, I'm still on a high from it. 10 mins after she was born, she was latched on and nursing like a champ! One of the neatest things was how she didn't need to be suctioned, she just started breathing on her own perfectly fine.

We're all adjusting to our new addtion. Ds is handling it pretty well, though he does have his moments. Tandem nursing is going well, but can be hard to get them both positioned when ds wants to join in.

What a beautiful name!

And a wonderful birth story. Isn't it amazing how quickly the body can dilate?

Oh man, I feel so embarassed....anyone take note that I was spellin my baby's name wrong? The correct way is Sequoia, like the tree. LOL my dh noticed the mistake. Thank goodness I wasn't the one to fill out the birth certificate info....poor lil girl would be walkin around w/ a misspelled name her whole life. Sheesh, I must have some of the pregnancy brain lapse left.

Congratulations on a great birth! Just curious who your midwife is, since mine is in Pleasanton and San Jose is not too far from there.
