Thinking about changing providers?

I have an appointment scheduled for early next month with the ob practice I used for DS's birth. I'm not 100% sure I want to stay with them, however. I loved the doctor who was on call at DS's birth - my doula said she was more like a midwife than some midwives, LOL, but I did not like one of the other docs who I saw for prenatals. There was also a midwife on staff, who you rotated through just like the docs, but she's gone. Instead, there's a new doc, who is actually who I'm seeing in May. I'm thinking that my feelings about her might determine whether I want to stay.

I'm thinking about interviewing midwives as well. My question is, should I go interview before my appointment and keep it strictly as "interviews," since I'm scheduled to see the doctor, or should I wait to decide if I want to stay with my ob?

Sorry this is a saga...I feel better writing it out, at least it gives me something clear to think about.

I would interview -- without it being a prenatal appointment -- as soon as possible. I think it's hard to get a true sense of your abilities to work with someone when you have your pants off.

Kristen, it sounds to me like you're really struggling with the idea of going status quo or seeing if there is something better out there. An interview would probably make things much clearer for you. Interviews are a great time to really learn about the care provider. If you feel that little "what if" inside your head now... imagine what it would be SHOUTING if you stick with what you know and don't have the outcome you want. Right now is the time to do the leg work. The pay off is 9 months later. If you loved the Dr. who was at Aaron's birth and she was more like a midwife, chances are you'll love the midwives.

Gas to the appointment: $2.00
Using Internet to research good questions: $10/month
The information you receive: Priceless
