Where do you buy used homeschool material?

I am specifically looking for used primer level math u see teacher/student book and manipulative blocks. They are pretty expensive new (we are pretty low on cash). I have looked on ebay but there is nothing in that level right now.

I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction!

Thanks

The boards I check for used items are:
vegsource k-2 sale board and the Well trained mind sale and swap board. Both are pretty active.

vegsource, ebay, the TP. Local homeschooling groups often have "swaps" where you can get some wonderful materials.

I've found used HS materials in many places-
eBay
vegsource
WTM boards
MCD TP
AmityMama market board
SonLight boards (sonlight materials only)

Sometimes I get lucky, and sometimes I end up waiting for a couple of weeks while stalking the trading boards & ebay. This is a good time of year to be looking, though. All of the new curriculum catalogs are coming out, and people are starting to sell old stuff so they can afford things for next year.

We were poor and got things from garage sales, the library, or made them. There are many things you can get for math for free on teacher's websites.

Which websites are these, if you don't mind. I'm always open to free :LOL !

Between the library and the internet you can homeschool for free. The only things that you would NEED to purchase are supplies.

I also wanted to warn you that quite often you will pay more than half of the full price for used curriculum. However, when you sell it used you will probably get enough back out of it to make it worth your while.

I recently made $75 on used curriculum I re-sold on e-bay.

but half price is still half price. I was looking at math you see the other day and was shocked but what my cart total came to. holy smokes. we ended up going with Making Math Meaningful.

There are several trading boards for used homeschooling supplies. I will search my links this weekend and see what I can find.

Thanks for the advice. I want to use some curriculum next year with dd - but want it to be fun and loose. My dd likes and needs some structure. I will have a newborn in Sept and be exhausted. I seriously don't think we will be getting out of the house much for awhile - so I thought that a loosish type of curriculum would be great. Altogether I am only looking for five in a row vol. 1 - I know I can get that for a good price on ebay. We also chose math u see because dd seems to be the same type of learner as I am. I am very very very poor in math skills. If I can't visualize it - then I can't do the problem. I thought that if I had been taught math according to my learning style - I would have actually liked it and learned it. That is why I was thinking math u see would be the best choice. I am willing to look into other math programs though. At the moment I am not comfortable teaching her math skills without a program due to my poor skills. Handwriting without tears is also something that I am considering because I know dd would enjoy doing it. In fact, writing letters to her friends is her favorite pass time right now.
I am completely not worried about reading/english. She is only going to be 5 in Sept. and I think she is close to figuring a lot of it out just from us reading together. She also likes starfall.com.
Everything else we will need is going to come from the library. If it turns out that we can't afford those programs that I want to buy, then I will just go with the free things from the internet and library. I am sure her education will be just as good. She is only in Kindergarten.

I have definitely found it to be true that you can homeschool for free between the library & the internet and also using community resources but there have been times I've felt I had to buy something and I usually post on barter boards that I know there are homeschool families at first (MamaBarter on yahoo,Edgy-catin' Mamas, Amity Mamas, etc) and I'll even post a WANTED post on my local Freecycle board. If that fails, then I'll head to ebay.

Just wanted to toss this out there for you...I was going to use Math U See as well and was all set but happen to talk to someone that was using it and just switched to Singapore Math-very similar but cheaper and a few more story problems with pics to make it interesting.
I'm looking for it now on the used boards to use with my son this summer/fall.
Just wanted to offer another option for you if you were interested.
