OK mamas, I need food ideas for bday party

Saturday is DD's 3rd bday party. Since our house is smallish, we've opted to go to DD's favourite place in the city, which is a farm right in the middle of the city. Weather report looks good - fingers crossed, as there is not really a place to be inside at the farm where we can sit and eat, do cake, etc (there are picnic tables outside).

We will be about 10 kids in all, ranging from 12 months to 10 years. There are about 10 adults I think. We have to carry whatever we're having on public transit to the farm (will bring huge backpack and ocean liner stroller). We are having the party at 1PM (can't change this), so I think people will expect a bit more than cake and treats.

What kind of food can I serve, that will be easy to carry and easy for the little ones to eat? Are sandwiches just to boring? Only food issue I know of is one child doesn't do eggs.

TIA. You are always a goldmine!

How about having pizza delivered to you at the entrance to the farm? Given the number of people and all that you'll be carrying in, I suggest keeping it as simple as possible. Have fun!

The last kid party I went to had various sandwich fillings in flour tortilla roll-ups. It looked festive and my 3 yo actually ate some. I think they would travel well uncut if you bring a knife (which you'll need for the cake. Nothing worse than cake w/o a knife). Lots of room for variety and creativity, too. They also had a bunch of cut up fruit.

flour tortillas: just what I was thinkin' 4evermom!

cold fillings like
cream cheese
pimento cheese
bean dip
hummus
peanut or almond butter and preserves
chopped olives, cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms, etc. but chopped tomatoes get kinda messy, I think, unless some cherry tomatoes just put on the side
grated cheese
ground beef or a spicy refried beans-rice burrito type mixture you make
all of these (except the beef) I would think would be okay out of a fridge for a few hours if not in direct sunlight or really hot climate

whatever is spreadable or in bits, really!

add some plastic knives and spoons, and kids can help make 'em themselves!

sounds like fun--happy b'day to your 3 yo!

cocktail sausages,
scotch eggs,
cherry tomatoes,
carrot sticks,
cucmber sticks
crisps
quiche for the adults

that always seems to be popular and easy

Bag lunches

My DD's birthday party was this past Sat. at a park near our house. We had about 14 kids ranging in age from 2-9. I made (16) bag lunches and had them out on the table for the kids to help themselves. I made PBJ with the crust cut off, fruit leather, danimals yogurt, chips & drink box. I ordered festive lunch bags online. All the parents loved the idea, and the kids did too!
Good luck.
