Elastic mishap, how to fix??

So in my attempt to quickly sew a diaper at 1:00 am this morning I had a slight mishap. I have two layers hemp french terry and one of a knit print. Problem is I accidentally sewed the entire thing (less the few inces to turn), and forgot to put the elastic in entirely LOL! Do you think there is an easy way to fix this? I wonder if I cut the seem away just for where the elastic needs to be? I used a 5/8 seem allowance so I wonder if I just sewed the elastic on outide the seem allowance that would look really weird? I'm such a dummy!! I hate when I do things like this

If you are making it turned and topstitched, the elastic should be stitched to the seam allowance anyway. Just turn it back inside out and stitch the elastic in. I stitch it to the lining side, which makes it turn in nicely.

Thanks So is there any reason my elastic wouldn't gather?? Is there some special way to sew elastic to stretch knits? And what do you mean by the lining inside?

Can you please talk to me like I'm a dummy and have never done this LOL, I'm having a heck of a time...haven't done much sewing of diapers or with knits. So when it's inside out stitched all around, there is a layer of print inbetween two layers of hemp french terry

I really appreciate your help
