It's summer and I want some WINE! - Page 2

Forget wine, pass the margaritas! (I'm pregnant, so no alcohol for me... until September!)

As TiredX2 posted, the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream is the same as the amount of alcohol in your breastmilk. When the alcohol is out of your bloodstream, it's out of your breastmilk! If you are legally drunk (I'm not suggesting you get legally drunk, as a drunk parent isn't a responsible parent, just making an example!) you have as much alcohol in your bloodstream as does a "nonalcoholic" beer (O'Douls and the like).

That's EXACTLY what I want to do now that the weather is nice!

Thanks everyone for the great input... no how about a mojito
Just kidding...

There was a good article about this in LLL's publication recently.

I say this (about the French) to people who think I shouldn't be drinking. I also have been known to hold my ds to my breast with one hand and hold a beer in the other. I also think I probably drink a little more frequently than some other moms on here. I'm not a lush or anything, but with the nice weather I see no problem with having a beer or two in the evenings (or wine.) I don't pump and dump or wait or anything...I just don't see it as a problem. I've never had any problems with my supply and ds doesn't seem affected by it at all.

I also had the occasional beer or glass of wine while pregnant. My doctor okayed it- told me no more than one or two drinks a day. I never had that much, but definitely didn't feel bad about the occasional beer or glass of wine. I realize that for many this is a definite no-no, but that's what I did.

I also see no prob with a few drinks while nursing an older baby/toddler.

Hehehe - love some of the replies here

I have been having a couple of glasses of wine per week ever since dd was born: my very best friend is a midwife and she suggested it!
I found that far from decreasing my supply it actually made my letdown faster and heavier.......just a sideffect of being a little more relaxed.
I still haven't had any caffeine though

I'm another mama who drinks wine occasionally, and have since DS was born 3.5 months ago. Everything is straight from the tap so there is no waiting or pumping and dumping considered. I think if mama isn't happy... nobody's happy

I am drinking a glass of wine as I type this, while DD lays on my lap. Our midwives said a glass of wine a day while pregnant was fine as well. I had Champagne the day after DD was born and I drink one or two beers or glasses of wine a couple times a week.

Our culture is so strange when it comes to certain things.

My step MIL said when I was drinking a glass of wine with dinner after DD was born (in a snotty voice) "oh, I didn't know you could drink while breastfeeding"...I said "Oh, yeah, YOU CAN"...she drinks to the point of stumbling, drunk, crying etc...but god forbid I have a glass of wine with dinner.

Have fun and have that wine!

Meant to give a to abac!

ABAC, I am in your category. I I had a drink here and there while I was pregnant...usually sipping slow with food and towards the end of my pregnancy (like when I was was WAY past my edd!) i had a glass of wine every night to try and chill out.

DS is 6 mos now and for awhile I did the sip my dh's beer and sometimes I have my own. Lately though with the nice weather and we have had some friends visit I have had a few drinks after ds goes to bed for the night. A few times he has woken up to nurse early and I have had mixed emotions. But it is more my gut tells me it is okay, because I am feeling fine and he is the picture of health and happiness.

You know when I read the info concerning the topic I was struck how your let down can be delayed after 2+ drinks and I thought that was actually pretty neat in the way it could be your body protecting your baby from a larger amount of alcohol. Although judging from the information here it seems it would be pretty difficult to even pass that much alcohol onto baby.

I drink wine and dont pump and dump. Now usually, it happens to be when my DD is asleep for the night, so its a while till she nurses again but sometimes she wakes up around 11 or 12 to eat. I dont worry too much about it. I dont get sloshed, just a glass or two.

I drink a glass of wine 3-5 nights a week and dd never seems bothered. Moderation is key.

You mean you don't have to drink alcohol to make breast milk? Gee, all that drinking I've been doing to keep up my supply....

You can have a big old glass of wine right now if you would like... just not more than 1 or 2. -

BoatBaby, sounds lovely
I am in the ABAC group, I have been known to enjoy a beer while nursing Ds. Get some pretty strange looks doing that in public though LOL
post #38 of 45
You should see the looks I got while doing a beer sampling with dd in my sling. Priceless.

Really, a few sips is nothing.

I also had the occasional beer while pg. Oh the horror. When strangers would comment I would dial the midwife and pass them the phone.

Have your drink and enjoy. Personally, I'm a beer woman.

Having a beer is supposed to be a good way to increase supply. I can't speak from experience, but I've read that.

I just returned from Napa, where I tasted many fine wines- Zinfandels are my current favorite.
Ella was in a sling, and I got plenty of nice comments about how happy she looked, and also some about the baby appreciating wine as well-the people were just being cute, but I liked the fact that they assumed we were breastfeeding!
