Spanglish

I just watched this last night and I liked it. Paz Vega was great, reminds me in looks of Penelope Cruz, and Adam Sandler was very good in a drama for a change. I didn't however like the ending there was too much that they left hanging. I would love to see a sequel to this to tie up all the many loose ends.

What did you others think?

Spanglish was among the movies I tried to rent last night...but Blockbuster was all out. I hate Blockbuster!

I also wanted to rent Finding Neverland and Sideways, but they were gone too!

My parents saw Spanglish in the theater and really liked it. I love Adam Sandler any way I can get him.

I saw it when it first came out and thought it was the biggest waste of my time...I could have been sleeping!

Sorry! (Surprised me, since we usually agree on books and movies, Mamabug...I'm in shock! :LOL )

Did anyone loathe that sex scene as much as me? It just made me really, really uncomfortable. yuck.

I'm sorry...but I REALLY hated this movie. The whole thing drove me nuts. The only good scenes were with the drunk mother. She had the only funny lines in the whole movie. I think they totally overdid Tea Leoni's character...to the point that you didn't have a shred of compassion for her. And both Paz Vega and Adam Sandlers characters were just the opposite...so over the top heroic and moral that they seemed fake.

Rent Finding Neverland or Sideways instead...both awesome movies.

I KNOW!! What is up with that? See I am a sucker for most any romantic comedy even the ones that suck, for instance I didn't hate Glitter ( Mariah Carey) or Crossroads ( Britney Spears) :LOL I have no taste in movies!

I got it through NetFlix and tonight I am watching Finding Neverland and I also have SuperSize Me and Princess Diaries 2.

And yes the sex scene was just plain weird??? Poor guy! And your right TM they did make it that you were rooting for him to cheat on her with Paz because she was just not a nice person, but then again there are plenty of ppl IRL like are like that for real!

TranscendentalMom, you make excellent points. I really wasn't thrilled with it. I'm pregnant and it didn't even make me cry! And let me tell you, I'm a softie. I cry at movie previews even when not pregnant!

annakiss, good point, I didn't cry either and I am not pg but it only takes so little to make me weepy. I am Queen of the Saps.

Adina, she is super beautiful ITA!

Dh and I bought this last week and we both loved it. I agree Cloris Leachman (the drunk mom) had the funniest lines and the sex scene was wacky. I thought she was going to attempt to swallow Adam Sandler whole!

I also had zero compassion for Tea's character as well and so wanted her to get dumped. I also wanted Flor and Adam's character to hook up. The ending did leave too much hanging. Like the daughter/mother relationship- would it be salvaged? Buying your kids clothing that is too small so she'll be motivated to lose weight is just plain evil!

Did I mention I really liked this movie?

For the first half of the movie I thought Paz was Penelope Cruz. :

:LOL Glad to know I was not the only one who thought they looked alot alike!

I agree that there was too much left hanging, though I do think that the last scene made it clear that the mother/daughter relationship btwn Flor and her dd worked out. I wanted to see Flor/Adam hook up and ride off into the sunset. I would love to see how the relationship of Tea' and her dd in the movie worked out. Too many what ifs? I want a sequel to tie it all up into a nice package :LOL

Well this is funny to me, cuz I LOVED the sex scene....thought it was funny. :

I liked the movie, not as much as I wanted to.

Here's what I thought:
they oversimplified most characters, relying on stereotype for the tough loving, single mom thing w/the Paz character, made her too stereotypical to be believable IMO

I enjoyed watching Adam Sandler BUT again thought his character was too simple and IRL I just don't think anyone is that "good", KWIM? He needed a bit of something else to make him more believable and likeable

I actually liked the Tea Leoni character.....again, too simplified but thought she was hilarious and enjoyed watching her a lot!

Dunno, I liked it all in all, but somehow felt let down at the end, don't know why.,.maybe not enough resolution w/the husband wife situation....didn't care enough about the housekeeper/single mom character to want to know even.

anyway thought I'd add that to the mix!!

I thought it was a great movie. I would have liked a different ending though.

I just saw it tonight and really liked it. Loathed Tia's character - so PC, so LA.

I really enjoyed watching it. I like Adam Sandler in dramas.

I saw it back in January and it made me cry. I enjoyed it, it just hit me emotionally really hard. I'm almost worried about watching it again so I haven't netflixed it yet.

I saw it a few days ago--DH & I watched it together--stayed up until past midnight to finish it-- I really liked it--I was suprised, as many people had said it got bad reviews-- but I liked everything about it. I'll watch it again. (I prefered it over Sideways which I just saw also--I bought Sideways expecting to like it more than I did....I LIKED it, but I wish I bought Spanglish instead.....Anyone want to trade??? hee-hee)
