Why is this book so expensive???

I have a copy of this book that I came across today that I had started for my first ds. I thought let me see if I can get another copy for his brother and I will try to get them all filled in up to today. Well I go to amazon and this is the price

Mindblowing Price

Why in the world would this book cost so much? I paid $12.99 for it! It still had the sticker on the back. I just can't get over it. I did google the author and while I saw the cover art there was no other place that sold it. I thought maybe it was a pricing error? Is that not weird?

Strange. ???

I'm just guessing here...

But the amazon description makes it look like the book is out of print. The 2 copies listed are actually "used" listings. Since it is a book that gets written in - its probably rare to find an unblemished copy.

Did a search at amazon.ca and it looks like it is out of print with next to no availability. but still, come on, even if it were printed on gold leaf, the price is crazy. Can it be that much in demand?

I know it's just nuts, The art work in nice but not THAT nice. And there are plenty of other books out there that have the same kinds of things. I just thought it would be nice to have the same book, kwim? I thought it was a typo at first :LOL

Hang on to your children's books mama's 'cause the prices are going through the roof. As baby boomers age, there is a lot of nostalgia for books they read as children or books they read as kids. Also, since the Reagan administration started taxing book inventory, publishers keep fewer and fewer books in print, and for shorter periods of time. For certain books, this causes scarcity among collectors. If you want to start collecting books, look for first editions of award winners without the medals on the cover, and first editions of your favorites, with clean dust jackets. Pop-up books will also be highly collectible. At my library, we are paying a lot more attention to our discards because some collectors will even pay big bucks for old library books with all the markings and everything. All of the children's books I bought in High School are now trading for $60-800 depending upon edition and condition. Wish I had bought more
