Red Rasberry Leaf Tea..how much?

Anyone else drinking this as we come to the end? I'm officially 37 weeks this week, and figured I would start drinking this to help my cervix out a bit. I had been having a ton of BH's in the prior weeks - and didn't want to push it too much!

Soo..how much would you all drink? A cup a day, two??

I attempt to drink 3 cups a day, which is what I've heard recommended. I generally only DO drink about 1 to 2 though. However, I went to 42.5 weeks last time - I am not worried about going early, I'm worried about going late, so extra BH are good news to me!

I try to drink at least 3 cups a day. I went over with both of my boys, so I am hoping to avoid that this time around.

RRL doesn't help you go any sooner. You're supposed to drink it the whole pregnancy to tone the uterus.

Yeah, I've been drinking RRL Tea the whole pg. I started out drinking the Pregnancy Tea, but prefer the taste of RRL.

Me, too, but more like 4 cups a day. Mine has alfalfa and some other good for you stuff in it, too... with a little bit of honey- yummy!

Hmm..my M/W said that it would help "soften" the cervix..which to me was saying in preparation for labor I guess. Maybe its a different way of saying the same thing and I misunderstood. She never really said WHEN to drink it...it just sounded like something I wouldn't want until closer to the end. I did the same thing with Elijah too... Oh well!

Hi ladies!

That thread is really interesting for me as I wasn't sure about when exactly to start drinking the tea! I've heard so many different opinions about it.. Some told me I should never drink it b4 34-36 weeks as it'd cause uterine contractions and I'd jeopardize the pregnancy... then again others say it's fine to drink the whole pregnancy through (even my Doc said it's ok as it's supposed to relax the uterine walls..) but honestly I was too afraid to try it out!..

I'll be having a scheduled c-section so I don't know how much it'll matter to prepare my uterus anyways.. but I often experience slight cramps (which is why my ob/gyn recommended drinking the RRLT) and would like to being able drinking something natural that's not doing any harm!..

I'd appreciate any more info on that subject!
Thanks, have a nice day!

Found some info on this site regarding RRL:
Quote:
There is agreement among many clinicians that in the 3rd trimester is beneficial to the uterine and pelvic muscles...
...Some say it is advised to not use it in the first trimester...if you have a history of miscarriage...
...The more conservative stance is that red raspberry leaf can cause minor spotting...and some U.K. midwives claim an increase in miscarriage rates.

does not start labor or promote contractions. It is NOT an emmenagogue or oxytocic herb. ...it does...help strengthen the pelvic and uterine muscles so that once labor does start the muscles will be more efficient.
(bold mine) I really mangled that quote to get it to 100 words or less for the copyright guidelines, please read the site, though those are the essential points. So basically, it's debatable about when to drink it, but end of pregnancy is particularly helpful and it doesn't aid in helping to start labor.

Anyone who is pregnant and has ever read "The compleat mother" magazine, would be drinking gallons of RRL tea by this time check out this link, especially the bottom article....
http://www.compleatmother.com/tea_company.htm

I've been drinking it during all pregnancy, one cup a day, combined with nettle and peppermint, and lately I've increased to 3-5 cups a day and with a new blend including black cohosh root..... I'm in my 36th week BTW

I asked my MW the same ?

This was her response:

What is the best source for RRL tea?
www.mountainroseherbs.com buy no less than a pound drink minimum
of 3 cups a day
that would be 1 teaspoon of herbs to 1 cup of hot water, steep for
10-20 minutes, and if you must lightly sweeten.

Thanks, Jennifer!

I think I'll really start drinking my daily 1-3 cups of RRL tea now!
