We have a 10.5 yo dd, and she is driving dh nuts. He wouldn't listen when I said that everything she was doing was perfectly normal for her age (though not necessarily acceptable). Well, I got a book from the library, Your Ten to Fourteen Year Old (there's a whole series of them), and dd is, according to that book, a stereotypical eleven yo developmentally. I got dh to read the relevant bits of the book, and he came to me and said "it describes her perfectly".
Bingo!!! Now I think he understands a bit better. Not to say that she is to get away with the bad behaviour, but that there is a biological reason for it, and she's not doing it just to annoy him.
