He finally understands!!!!

We have a 10.5 yo dd, and she is driving dh nuts. He wouldn't listen when I said that everything she was doing was perfectly normal for her age (though not necessarily acceptable). Well, I got a book from the library, Your Ten to Fourteen Year Old (there's a whole series of them), and dd is, according to that book, a stereotypical eleven yo developmentally. I got dh to read the relevant bits of the book, and he came to me and said "it describes her perfectly".

Bingo!!! Now I think he understands a bit better. Not to say that she is to get away with the bad behaviour, but that there is a biological reason for it, and she's not doing it just to annoy him.

That's an amazingly important distinction (explanation v. excuse), and applicable to soooooooooooooo many issues. Thanks for being an awesome person and keeping it in mind.
