We give our 27-month old a bath pretty much every night. It's part of our bedtime routine, etc., and works fairly well, though the transitions in and out of the bath can wear me out after a long day ("I don't want to take a bath! Want to play!" then later "I don't want to get out of the bath! Want to swim like a little seal!").
I also wonder if it's necessary to be so clean (probably not) and if it might be better at this point to have bedtime have more variation to it -- that is, so he doesn't need a bath to be able to relax, sleep, etc. I'm also wondering if it wouldn't make life easier for babysitters -- if we ever go out again, hah, I can dream can't I?
So: how common is it to do the nightly bath, and am I scrubbing unnecessarily?
Thanks, all!

I think the combination of shoes to make him a little taller and diaper to protect from the door tracks make him just able to climb in by himself. I was sure surprised!
